I was visiting Gulfport, Ms for a week and decided to visit some places to take pictures and Twelve Oaks Nature Trail was one of the places I came across. Once I saw the trees, I knew I had to capture them with my camera. I went one early morning and was quite surprised at how this place is literally tucked off behind businesses right off a busy road, so be careful not to pass it or overlook it. Once I found it, I begin to walk along the road that lead to the property and from the beginning, there were signs informing me of the facts and the history. Upon seeing those trees with my own eyes, I was so excited to take my camera out to get some shots but it was sprinkling. I was determined to get those shots, so I waited til it stopped to get them. They, the trees, are exactly how they look in the pictures. They are old, huge and wild! You will learn the history about them. The property is well kept, and I did see someone else there. It has a feeling there that's definitely a bit different from all around it. Also, watch out for banana spiders; those things are huge. I did walk along the trail but was too afraid to go too deep into the woods myself. I walked around the property, read signs and took in the scenery. It is definitely...
Read moreUpon arrival, you will find a narrow gravel driveway, which may initially raise concerns about accessibility. However, upon further exploration, it becomes evident that there is ample space for vehicles to turn around and park, accommodating up to two vehicles. Kindly note that there are no prominent signs at the entrance to indicate the location, but a small sign for the trail can be found. As this trail is not frequently used, the starting point may not be immediately obvious, but with a bit of exploration, it can be easily identified. The hike itself is relatively quick and straightforward, making it suitable for families with children or groups of friends. It provides a pleasant opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy...
Read moreAn absolutely magical place! We parked at the bank even though it said no parking and then walked down the gravel drive and around the gate. No idea where people are supposed to park. This trail is a little loop trail that would take no less than maybe 10min if you don’t stop and explore the nature around you but there’s SO much to explore! There’s a vista point overlooking the water but we didn’t see any gators. We did see a crab cross our path on the trail though but he was quick to burrow down. Also saw squirrels and a turtle. This is a beautiful peaceful place to stop and visit with the kids or family or just to get some quiet time...
