I hate writing a negative review of a local small business, but I would want to know this story prior to patronizing this store. I am writing this on behalf of my 84 year old neighbor who recently lost his wife.
My neighbor, Douglas, and his wife were married 63 years and she just recently passed away. November 20, 2024 to be exact. Douglas ordered a king bed from Olympia Furniture on October 6, 2024. The bed is adjustable which would allow his wife to elevate her feet and head. She was suffering terribly and had horrible water retention causing swollen legs. Like others who had complained about late deliveries, Douglas too experienced delays with his order. His wife passed away 9 days prior to the bed being scheduled for delivery to his home.
On November 21st, the day after his wife passed, Douglas went to Olympia Furniture to ask if he could "return" the undelivered bed. In the contract he signed, it says "All exchanges and cancellations are subject to seller approval. A minimum fee of 15% of the purchase will be assessed (re-stocking fee) on seller approved returns, exchanges or cancellations." I suppose this situation wasn't dire enough to allow such a cancellation to occur. I'm not sure what situation would qualify for this exchange or cancellation to take place. They did, however, offer to invoke this policy if he were willing to only get 50% of his money back. 50%! The total purchase was $8456. Douglas was absolutely understanding of the restocking fee as he wasn't necessarily looking for special treatment, just fair treatment and a bit of empathy for his situation. When he was in the store, his wife had passed away less than 24 hours prior.
Douglas has zero interest in keeping this bed. It is sitting in his guest room and he hasn't even bothered to sit on it. Is he destitute? No. Will he manage without his $8k? Yes. Should Olympia Furniture lose business over this situation? Absolutely. This is a local business supported solely by the members of its community. Olympia Furniture should treat its customers with respect and operate with integrity. This, in my opinion, is a terrible way to treat a community member and customer. I will not be taking my business, nor will our local neighborhood community, to...
Read moreI had a fabulous experience shopping at the Olympia Furniture and Sleep Company. Walking into the store for the first time I was quickly greeted by friendly staff who invited me to check out whatever I wanted and to ask if I had questions.
There was quite the inventory on the large main floor, but I was blown away when they took me downstairs, showing virtually double the inventory. Working with staff, they were able to find products that met my requirements in color, quality, and size. They spent a lot of time with me, looking at different models of recliners, loveseats, and pull out bed/couches. They researched products beyond what was on the floor and found the perfect fit for my pullout bed/couch. I mean it is spot-on, awesome! They also were able to find me 2 recliners for my RV that fit perfectly, and were the exact material and color that I wanted.
I opted to use their financing for my purchases, and the application and approval process took just a few minutes - which contributes greatly to the overall experience. I recognized that sales staff are supposed to spend time with customers to help them make an informed purchase. Jeff and his staff at Olympia Furniture and Sleep Company, do this in such a natural and organic way. They exhibit a passion in their work to not just meet your needs, but to also exceed your expectations in the service delivery process.
I simply could not have had a better experience. Olympia Furniture and Sleep Company Is a local company, has a huge inventory, and the best sales staff and service experience I’ve had in a long time. What a great local treasure to our community.
A huge shout-out of thanks to Jeff and his team. Consider my...
Read moreVery disappointed with the horrible customer service I got from them. Back in September I bought a couple pieces of furniture from them. I was told it would take 8-12 weeks to be shipped. Mid-November I called to check on status of order. They told me it was shipping that week. Another month goes by and I hadn't heard anything from them. It's now Mid-December and I call asking for another status update. It has now been 14 weeks since purchase. I was told there was "no shipping acknowledgement to be found", whatever that means. I was confused at this point since the previous month they told me it was going to ship. I was told they would get back to me after the holidays. Fast forward to mid-January and again no updates from Olympia Furniture. I am getting more and more upset at the lack of communication and service from them. I spoke with a couple different people, including a manager on several occasion, each with a promise to call the delivery person and a promise to call me back later that day or the next day... never happened. I felt that I was being led on and on and on... and probably would have continued until I canceled my order in February. 21 weeks after purchase. I never got an explanation or an apology other than a simple "sorry". I purchased a sofa from them in the past and was happy with that experience. It was a very different experience this time. I was planning on buying a lot of furniture after moving from a house with built in furniture to an empty house with nothing... but after this experience I will not be buying from Olympia Furniture again. It is clear to me they do not care about their customers. Very...
