Some #OISF historical info bout the origins of fair until Labor Day festivities below ๐
1973, the City of Orange ๐ was brainstorming ways to celebrate its centennial. Taking a page from the 1910 Orange Street Fair, they decided to throw the first-ever Orange International Street Fair (OISF). It was such a hit that it's become an annual Labor Day weekend tradition. Nestled near Plaza โฒ Park ๐๏ธ in the heart of the historic downtown district, the Fair is surrounded by not only a U.S. National Landmark but also dozen of other National Historic Landmarks and even UNESCO Heritage sites. ย ย ย Read moreThis was my first experience at the Orange International Street Fair. My friends make it an annual tradition to come each year, and this time I said why not let's go. First off, I kind of regret going this past Sunday because it was terribly hot. I prepared myself since I was warned parking will be horrendous and it's generally packed with people. There's quite of but of private parking lots ranging from $10 - $15. Instead of battling and driving in circles, we paid the $10 and walked a few blocks.
Once we arrived, we made our way to the wristband vendor. You must purchase a $2 wristband in order to drink at the fair. There were too many people at the fair, with many walking way too slow and bumping into you. There were lots of police officers and gang units walking around to ensure there wasn't any trouble obscene behavior.
The food and drink was crazy overpriced but since it was an international fair, I expected some unique dishes from each vendor. Unfortunately, nothing stood out, just the normal type of foods you can find anywhere, just with a price hike. I expected the beer to be way overpriced and surely it was. One beer was four to five dollars or get 2 for seven to nine dollars (depending on the draft).
We visited many if not all the booths; Italy, Mexico, Switzerland, Germany, Greece, America, etc. My friends bought an arrange of food items such as bratwurst, corn on the cob (elote), gyros, but I just went for the Italian Ice since it was so hot. The International Street Fair is a good concept, but apparently it was better years ago. Possibly it might even be better if it were in a better location. The combination of obnoxious drunk people, people moving as slow as possible or bumping into one another, and overpriced food missed it for me. The OC and LA Fair is a much...
ย ย ย Read moreBeen going for over 15 years. Just got home from the first night, what a disappointment! We paid for 2 drink wristbands. There is beer all over but only 1 wine/ champagne booth. That would be sufficient if the old ladies did not stand and shoot the breeze with friends while we all stand there trying to order. After 10 minutes, I left...passing on spending $15 for a Dixie cup of mediocre champagne! They are suppose to be selling drinks to raise money???? Those old birds aren't selling anything just killing time and wasting the time of others!!! So...
