First off it's $15 to enter And you must have 32 oz of water before you can attempt the trail which is absolutely necessary. This trail is not for people with physical disabilities such as myself I had to learn the hardaway today I make so many mistakes attempting to complete this trail I made it a personal challenge. First off where the appropriate clothing which I did not have a hat shorts light t-shirt and excellent walking shoes also make sure you have the appropriate amount of water A minimum of 30 oz is required to enter the trailhead and hike if you have any physical ailments consider trying this when you are healthy or have the appropriate equipment to complete the walk such as a walking stick which are neglected to take I had a near medical emergency on the trail because of my lack of preparedness luckily I was assisted by wonderful people to help me with water and making sure I did not suffer any injuries. If you're going to do this go early in the morning. I could not believe how The people on the trail were so helpful seeing me in distress I cannot thank these people enough I only made it a mile and a half up the trail which disappointed me. I know next time to be better prepared it was memorable and I would recommend it for anyone who wants to challenge themselves somebody of good health and physical stamina should complete this walk in less than an hour. Remember to hydrate yourself prior to visiting the trail. Enjoy yourself in this beautiful area...
Read moreWonderful walk along water with some beautiful views on path back. Lots of hummingbirds in the bushes along the trail. Stream has lots of rapids and was beautiful whole way up.
According to local we met on trail, the day we were there the water was at highest volume he had seen in 10 years, so a treat.
We had to cross the stream couple of times, first crossing was a nice stone bridge but crossing just below falls was stepping stones with lots of water passing through, so you would have to have decent balance to manage. We saw lots of older people, young kids doing trail but it certainly had it ups and downs and tallish rock steps, so while not an advanced trail also not suitable for anyone with balance issues or who can only do flat trails.
Most people were walking whole time on trail and some places where trail is narrow and so hard to pass people but there are certainly some places just off trail to rest and enjoy, you could spend hours there or just walk in 1.0-1.5 hours.
Mostly shaded in morning, lots more people on trail as it got later in the day, so the one way loop, the map and trail markers suggest is good way to go (up mostly on right side of stream and down mostly on other...

TIPs:
Watch the short video in the welcome center which tells the story of Tahquitz.
Go with the Indian ranger guide (8:00am, 10:00am & noon) who will show how the Native Cahuilla survived the harsh climate using plants as food & medicine & who will share the canyon's history. You may also see Big horn sheep or other native animals.
Bring your own 16oz/person water which is MANDATORY for entry. Otherwise pay $4 per bottle.
Best to arrive before 11:00am since crowds start to form and the trail gets crowded. Also it gets really hot in the afternoon.
Dress in layers. It can get hot in the sun and then cold in the canyon shadows.
Walking sticks recommended since you may go over large rocks. Rocky terrain makes this a Moderate Level hike.
Best to use closed toe hiking shoes. Tennis shoes may slip on damp rocks or loose gravel.
Waterfall is beautiful; lots of photos taken here so get in and out quickly.
Stay on the trail. You may be hurting native plants or rocks may slip if you try to climb. Watch small children near the water. Dogs not allowed.
