Loved the writing of “Mr. Parker” and the themes of identity and how the past affects us. The acting was honest and direct. However, a woman next to me texted throughout and ruined the show for me, and I felt terrible for the actors who could see the light from her phone. There was a welcome before the show: a solicitation for funding the new theater and a warning about videotaping or recording the show. Why can’t the following be included: “Under no circumstances can you receive or send texts at any time during the performance. Please turn your phones off, not just silence them.” This is a huge reason why people don’t go to the theatre: They do not want the shared audience experience because of television manners—people are behaving as if they’re at home.
