We had a fabulous tour with Michael! We took the "Insider's Tour" + Frederick Loewe Estate (3 Interiors) and enjoyed seeing inside three very different examples of Palm Springs modernism, including a privately owned and lived-in Alexander Home (one of the 80-odd variations built in the 1950s), another home by architect Walter S. White that’s been tastefully revived, and the Frederick Loewe Estate. Our tour lasted about 3 hours. In between entering the individual houses and exploring them with Michael, we drove around town in our own car, following Michael’s car, listening to Michael via conference call through our car speakers. Michael gave fascinating historical, cultural and architectural information on the area and how Palm Springs was developed over many decades. This was my second time taking The Modern Tour and let me just say that Michael Stern does not disappoint. I toured with him 5 years ago with my husband while we renovated our mid century modern home and again this weekend with our daughter who is in design school. Michael is an absolute delight—charming, with a razor sharp wit and exceptional knowledge of all things Palm Springs + Modern. I was recently in Palm Springs for a look-around. I told a friend I was going and he said the most important thing I could do was to go on the Modern Tour, to see the wonders of Palm Springs architecture from an insider’s perspective. So I joined the caravan, piloted by Michael Stern, a scholar and expert on the subject.
