What a beautiful and well thought-out establishment. It's so rare to come across a treasure like this in any big city any more. When you walk in the door for the first time there's a familiarity you experience. It's the smell of the bay rum aftershave tonic and the talc powder. The sound of the combs being tapped on the side of the glass disinfecting jars. The music drifting from the restored 1940s radio. And the sight of the correctly attired barber working at the restored 1940s barberchair.
Every single working artifact in this room screams pride of ownership and extreme attention to detail. And it's not too much. It's a collection of pieces that work together and compliment each other.
Let's talk about the man behind the shop. This is not just a fine looking shop or a collection of antiques. In the world of barbering Anthony “Sailor Tony" Reilly is a traditionalist. (He earned that moniker in the Navy.) He works fast and clean. His haircuts are meticulous. His shaves are relaxing and thorough. And as for the service, he charges a more than fair price. (It makes me happy to know he supports a young family with it.)
Overall, and in every aspect, a five star experience. Don't expect any fuss, frills or fake niceties. Instead you'll get respectful, attentive service and masterful work.

Read moreI have been trying to find the barber for me for years now and it's finally happened. Fishtown is full of barber shops and none of them compare to Franklin's Barber Shop. It's so nice to finally be able to make an appointment online to make it work with my busy schedule. These guys are the epitome of what a good old fashioned barber should be. From the hot towel shave to the decor to the witty banter to the manual cash register; this is the real deal. I cannot say enough good things about the cut. I've been a few times now and I no longer have to preface what we're doing with the haircut. Tony and Vince remember me and what I want and nail the cut every time. This place and clean, nostalgic and most importantly, a killer haircut at a very...
Read moreI’ve been coming to Franklin’s for just about a year now, and I’ve never gotten a bad hair cut. Sam is my go-to barber and she always does a fantastic job. However, what made me think about leaving this review today was my beard trim on January 18.
I booked my beard trim two days before my wedding. I was very nervous about it, because barbers in the past had done really horrible jobs and not listened to what I wanted. This was not the case with Sam - I felt fantastic, friends commented on how great my beard looked, and my now wife loved it too. If you ever go in for a beard trim, the whole process is so relaxing and you come out looking and feeling...
