Hard pass! I’d rather go So. Philly to the other Card Shop in town: Frustrating Experience That Shifted My Perspective
I used to visit this shop with genuine excitement. The selection of cards—from Pokémon to One Piece and Magic: The Gathering—was broad, and the initial vibe felt promising. The shop even has a friendly dog, Pepper, who adds a warm touch to the space.
However, my most recent visit revealed troubling issues with inventory management and pricing transparency. I inquired about a card in the case, and the owner appeared unaware of its value, unsure of what he’d paid for it, and unable to provide a price—even after taking time to look it up. It felt as though he wanted to retract the card from the case altogether once realizing it was worth more than he expected. He never followed up with a price or resolution.
On top of that, I’ve bought cards here previously that were scratched or damaged—yet priced as near mint. That’s a real concern for collectors, especially new ones. These patterns suggest a lack of consistency and care in evaluating and selling inventory.
I genuinely wanted to support this shop as a Fishtown local, but unfortunately, I can’t recommend it after this experience. Word to the wise: examine cards closely and ask clear questions if you’re...
Read moreUnderwhelming store, and 2 workers who don’t know much about the hobby. traded in a bunch of lower end cards($1-$5)all near mint. guy at the counter stared at each one commenting “nah this will 8” basically spitting out bs. didn’t know people sent out $1-$5 cards to psa/grading services. and for a card store that doesn’t send out to psa(as far as i know) why would that be a concern with near mint MODERN pokemon thats getting put out at MARKET? asking for single card prices in their “showcase,” if you can call it that, is a headache too. rather than have a sale sticker with a fixed price, they would pull out their phones to check market, poorly determine a cards’ condition and then spew out most recent prices it sold for in near mint. at that point i was over it, used whatever store credit to get a single that was over priced for its condition. 2 most recent sold on tcg was NEAR MINT going for double market price, this was light play at best. they have a nice selection a sealed, but priced above market. i’m not from fishtown, but if you are, there’s better pokemon shops 30 minutes-1hour away. I recommend those before...

I've been a huge Pokémon fan since 1999 and recently started collecting again as an adult. So it it's amazing to find a local shop like Philly TCG that shares my passion. The owner, Jess, is truly dedicated to the hobby - I could tell he loves what he does. What's even cooler is that Jess started collecting Pokémon cards as a kid, just like me!
What I appreciate most about Philly TCG is that everything is priced fairly and at market value. It's clear Jess wants to make sure everyone walks away happy. If you're looking for a trustworthy spot to buy, sell, or trade Pokémon cards, Philly TCG is the place to go. Plus, supporting local mom-and-pop shops like this one helps keep the community vibrant. Highly recommend...
