Read moreI went to Pierce the Veil last night, and I'm a wheelchair user. And while I enjoyed the concert, I have some major complaints with this venue.
When I arrived, my boyfriend was pushing me, and we went to the back of the general admissions line, or we were supposed to. However, everyone lined up on top of this hill on the side of the venue, which I obviously couldn't get to. Security moved everyone down onto the sidewalk, and then they told us to wait. We were misled to the back of the line again, and then were told to go to the front for ADA access with the fast lane people.. however they made us stay behind because we only had general tickets.
When we were going through security, my boyfriend was pulled away from pushing my wheelchair. Then, without my permission, this security guard grabbed my wheelchair and started to take me elsewhere.. and then he said my boyfriend could follow. My wheelchair is an EXTENSION OF MY BODY, it is NOT something you just push without asking. You wouldn't yank someone by their arm without asking, it's the same thing! And if my boyfriend was allowed to come with me, LET HIM PUSH ME, I was absolutely NOT comfortable with security pushing me without my consent.
My main gripe with this venue was when I was moved to ADA seating because my wheelchair was a lawn hazard, was that the seating wasn't elevated. At first, everyone was sitting, so it was fine. But when Sleeping with Sirens came out, everyone suddenly stood up, and I heartbroken, realized that I couldn't see. We moved to another area, and we still couldn't see. I had people looking behind themselves, seeing me, and stayed standing. I am perfectly okay with people standing at concerts, as I know that's part of the experience, but accessible seating should be.. I don't know, accessible??? I would suggest they raise the ADA seating spots a few feet so they can see like everyone else. I shouldn't have had to been held up by my boyfriend so I could stand and watch the bands I love perform. I shouldn't have to push myself past my limits to be able to see. I ended up passing out during intermission, which wouldn't have happened if I was able to.. you know, see??
PLEASE raise your ADA seating spots, we want to enjoy the concert too, and part of enjoying the concert is being able to...
