Enthralling Premiere of "The Coffin Maker" at O'Reilly Theater
I attended the world premiere of "The Coffin Maker" at the O'Reilly Theater on May 31, 2024, marking my first visit to this venue. Our initial seating was to the right of the stage, but due to an obstruction, we were kindly moved to the center front row, offering the best view in the house. The entire set was visible without any hindrance—a truly 5-star seating experience.
The stage was thoughtfully set in the early 1800s, reflecting the era of slavery, which enhanced the authenticity and emotional depth of the play. The cast delivered profoundly moving performances, perfectly capturing the gravity of their roles and the historical context—another well-deserved 5 stars.
Parking was incredibly convenient, thanks to the shared space with the theater's parking garage. At $30.00, the event parking rate felt reasonable and added to the ease of the experience, earning a solid 4-star rating.
On a less positive note, the refreshment options were somewhat limited. The absence of warm food items like nachos, hot dogs, hamburgers, and pizzas was noticeable. Settling for candies and sodas was a bit disappointing, which I feel warrants a 3-star rating for the concession stand.
Overall, "The Coffin Maker" is a poignant and compelling production that I highly recommend seeing. It's also worth noting that the premiere coincided with the kickoff of the Arts Festival and Pride, adding to the vibrant atmosphere downtown. Despite the bustling crowd, the theater managed the event well. If you're planning a visit, just consider the limited snack options and perhaps dine beforehand.
This production is a must-see for its powerful performances and superb venue, though improved snack choices would make the experience...
Read morewant to start by saying that the show was spectacular and so was the venue. However, we arrived at our seats to find an usher, no not a typo, an usher occupying one of our seats in the third row in the middle. The usher asked my girlfriend and I if we would be ok sitting apart as she was not going to move out of her seat. She then proceeded to tell us that it wasn't a full house and we could find plenty of seats together higher up in the theatre and stayed in the seat for the duration of the show. Without helping anyone to their seats of course. It's a terrible shame, it was a spectacular performance but I won't be buying tickets there anytime soon knowing that my seats aren't guaranteed and can be occupied by employees at...
Read moreShow was good, actors did nice job. I ordered 4 tickets on November 24 after receiving an email that same day with a 50% discount if I ordered by midnight. But when I went to their website I didn’t get the discount. I sent an email to Pittsburgh Public Theater and was told the discount was only available the day before, November 23. But I didn’t receive the email until November 24. I even forwarded a copy of my email to PPT. Nothing. So either their Marketing Dept is incompetent, or it was a deliberate bait and switch to trick me into ordering tickets. Fortunately there are other theater options in Pittsburgh. I will not go to another...
