My co-workers and I have been in the Pittsburgh area for about a month now and last night finally had a chance to grab a nice dinner out. Meat & Potatoes was a fantastic choice. Our server, Jessica, was extremely personable, took the time to answer all of our questions, and made great recommendations! For cocktails I tried both the Corpse Reviver and the Mexican Honeybee and both were extremely tasty. We also ordered the Buffalo Mac & Cheese and the Cheese Board for our appetizers. While the mac & cheese wasn't necessarily for me, the selection of cheeses were all sublime. The blue cheese in particular was probably the best I've had. For my main course I decided to try the mussels with frites. The mussel "style" for the evening was Thai made with some coconut milk and lemongrass. I am a huge fan of moules frites and these definitely did not disappoint. I also got to try a bite of the potato gnocchi special and the duck ragu was absolutely incredible! Overall we had a wonderful evening getting to finally see downtown Pittsburgh. The only reason I am giving a review of 4/5 is because the hostesses were quite rude. In particular, Olivia was extremely short with us and told us it would not be possible to get a table until 8:15 (this was around 6:45). Then we we left to go grab a drink and kill some time, we had walked maybe ten minutes away and I received a text saying our table was now ready. Luckily we were able to run back across town and grab the table before it was given away. Some communication from Olivia would have been helpful. Though, we probably should not have worried so much as by 7:30 there were at least three empty tables and the bar was basically deserted. No one even acknowledged us as we were leaving. We ran into a couple of other ladies on our way out who were also commenting on the lack of basic customer service skills by the girls upfront. All in all, however, if you are able to make it past the host stand, you are in for a great evening! Thanks again to Jessica and all of the chefs for providing a great night away from work for us! This was my first experience with this restaurant. It was a beautiful place, though I have to admit the seating was a little inconvenient. The tables for two were mere inches away from other tables, and one party would share a bench seat with others. I've seen this arrangement in other restaurants, just never quite as tightly together. The atmosphere was still pleasant, ant the service was good. We decided on the Beef Wellington for Two, which came with a hefty price tag of $114. We were told it would take an hour to prepare and we were absolutely fine with this, we were (as stated) pleased with the atmosphere, and I had a couple of cocktails. My favorite of the evening was their tropical take on a gin and tonic, highly recommended. We also had the Foie Gras, and that was absolutely incredible. When our main course arrived, it looked beautiful, but surprising. It was the same price range (perhaps $10 less) as a giant Tomahawk steak for two) and yet it was a small serving of beef wellington. Yes, it's what we ordered, of course, but when a couple orders "Beef Wellington for Two" one expects, I suppose, something other than a typical plate of food. Maybe the intact wellington? I don't know what we were expecting and it was perhaps on us for not asking, but we were a little disappointed with the presentation. We had high hopes for flavor! I did want to like it, but the pastry crust had a slightly burned taste to it. The steak, though it was perfectly cooked, was somehow somewhat flavorless. There seemed to be a lack of seasoning through the whole of it. I WILL say that the vegetables served with it were absolutely divine and I'd go back simply to have those. Am I unhappy with my experience? Not at all. Would I get the wellington again? Nope! I'd like to go again and try something different and see if that was simply an off night. (To add: they do not validate parking for the garage, for those looking for that information.)

My husband and I made a reservation on OpenTable (highly recommend) for 05/17/2023. They are currently doing some renovations. The inside of Meat & Potatoes is really cool, and different than your typical restaurant. The bar is the focal point right in the center, and it's decorated very beautifully. The dining area is on the smaller side and is quite intimate. The restaurant seems geared toward singles/dates, and probably not best for a large group. Service was great and the servers (there were multiple) were very attentive. Food review: - Waygu Carpaccio | Rating 10/10: absolutely fabulous. It was on the spicier side but very flavorful. Great starter portion for 2-4 and was just very tastefully made. - Steak Frites | Rating 7/10: the steak itself was VERY chewy and hard to cut. The plate it was served on had edges and there wasn't a ton of room to cut the steak with the mountain of fries also on the plate. While the steak was chewy, the butter on top was to die for, as well as the sauce for the fries. The fries were delicious as well, very well fried and had great flavor. - Filet Mignon | Rating 8/10: my husband raved about the steak. He said the flavor was out of this world with the sauce, and it was cooked beautifully. The disappointing part was the duck fat roasted potatoes. They lacked flavor and just missed the mark. Drink review: - We had ordered 2 Sgt. Pepper's Old Fashioned, 1 Root to Berry, and 1 Cosmo (not on the menu). All of the drinks we'd give about a 7/10. The Root to Berry was super tart and the Cosmo was just ok, nothing to brag about. My husband said both Old Fashioned drinks were good but again, nothing stood out. Overall, we'd recommend Meat & Potatoes. We did spend about $100 per person, so it is pricey depending on what you order. The ambiance and service was great and the food was good, we hope to give it another shot (and their other restaurants they're affiliated with)!

Second time coming here & certainly not the same as my first experience. The hosts were nice an accommodating as usual. When we were sat I could see our server was very busy. No big deal, he came over introduced himself and gave us time to decide on what we wanted to drink. 10 mins later he comes back around, ready to order drinks and an appetizer. Puts those in & I see him tending to a huge party so we try not to bother him. Our apps come & by that time me and my partner both want boxes for our apps so we can order our entrees. Our server then comes over and takes our order, I ask for my steak medium- medium well some pink (it was bloody as hell, not his fault) and my partner asked for the roast beef. Before our food comes we both finish our drinks, and don't see our server on our side of the room until he's 3 tables down from us, looks at us and runs to the kitchen for something for that table. At this point im a little irritated, he didn't have any huge parties to tend to so why can't he check on us for 5 seconds so I can order a drink? Atleast 20 minutes go by the restaurants basically half the occupancy it was when I arrived where is he at? I get out of my seat and go to the bar, the bartenders a bit confused but happy to make my drink, she'd bring it over to my table once it's finished. After she brought it my server wants to appear to ask how everything is. We just say it's fine, just because I didn't want them to have to rush to remake my steak, I'll just heat it up when I go home. First time here we sat at the bar and had a great time, maybe that's what you have to do or have a party larger than to to be taken care of well.

RIBEYE RIP-OFF FOR TWO: I was undecided since my wife is not a big fan of meat. When I asked if M&P had a single Ribeye cut they said NO. So we were setup. The menu said 45 Oz with bone marrow at $75 seemed like a good deal, and the server said "you would not be able to finish it!" After about 1 hour waiting!, besides the bone marrow, the meat came attached to a huge bone that was projecting out of the table and the meat looked actually small. When we tried the meat it was the most greasy Ribeye I ever tasted in my life. I know the cut has a dose of grease and I have eaten in the likes of Morton's and Capital Grille. When I had chewed enough grease I started separating it and left it on the plate and I was shocked to find out it made 1/3-1/2 of the size of the meat. By the way, the bone marrow was very untasty. I complained with the server and M&P was very irresponsive, they argued "that's the way the cut is!" Sure!, now I understand why they don't have single cuts! This is the piece of the Ribeye, quality venues don't bother to take. M&P makes a deal in shopping it all and saving in cut labor. DO NOT FALL FOR IT. IT WAS NO MORE THAN 20 OZ OF MEAT, 10 OZ OF EXTRA GREASE AND 15 OZ OF BONES WITH AN UNTASTY BONE MARROW AS A COURTESY...We ordered two sides which made the final price tag $107. For that price I could have ordered two pieces of high quality meat somewhere else. Look at the picture and SEE HOW A SCAM LOOKS LIKE
