I attempted to begin my order for 2 custom, My Little Pony inspired rings that were to be replacement wedding bands for me and my husband, back in August of 2015. I sent one or two FaceBook messages, and then converted to plain old e-mail, using Yahoo!. I had quite a bit of difficulty in keeping contact with Paul, who actually told me in one of his replies that he has too many customers to keep track of, and so folks often get misplaced in the shuffle. That should have been an instant red flag, but I was excited about these rings and decided to go with Paul's suggestion: Using a private forum through Trello, in which to communicate.
Trello wasn't providing to be terribly much help, not at first, and I sent a message there, and again through FaceBook, asking Paul if he had the time to devote to this project because I wanted them in my hands by December 1st even though I didn't need them till the end of that month, or close to. He assured me all was well and he could do it. Designs were tossed back and forth and I was very clear on what I wanted (I have screenshots of every bit of the Trello conversation), but that didn't seem to matter.
The rings ended up not being started until late November, which frightened me quite a bit because of the date I needed them by. Paul assured me I would have them on time, and then, around something like the 18th of December...there was a hiccup. One of the bands had to be 100% re-done, due to the stones not setting up properly in the casting.
Paul then told me he was going to rush them; he was going to aim to get them done super fast so I would have them by when I needed. He then said he was going to send me one of the rings, coated in enamel, which I would then pay out of pocket to send back, once the proper ring was finished. So cue more waiting, since I was not about to go with the above option.
After 3 weeks of asking to see my ring, which Paul was calling finished (and I had to get pushy to get the photo) I see that it was indeed rushed, and nothing I would call finished. Also, the wrong color stones were set into the ring, which Paul didn't seem to care about. It felt like a nonchalant response; just another "oops" on rings that cost me close to 4500 AUD in total.
I ordered a 14K white gold band, with rubies as the stones. He had set some light pink "gems" in a band that looked like cheaply cast metal. The enamel that was painted for the rainbow band portion, was chipped and not all the way complete, and the metal of the ring not only doesn't look perfectly round, but is also chipped and just looks cheap. They look absolutely nothing like what I ordered.
I can't get any response from him, now, and finally stumbled across an Etsy page of his where he refuses to give refunds. I did not order through Etsy, or even his website. I ordered through Trello where there were no up-front stipulations, stating that I understood there was a no-fund policy in place. No; I received no information like that at any time.
I am likely going to have to go through PayPal and open a dispute to get my money back, because I am not accepting a pair of rings that not only never arrived by a specific date and thus breaking a contract, but also look very rushed. I would not recommend this company at all. All in all: A very frustrating, sorry experience.
Also, potential buyers should be made aware that the photos of his work, are merely computer-generated mock-ups; they are not of the actual piece you...
Read moreI met with Becky to get a quote on an item I wanted to sell. She said she always likes to get a 2nd opinion from a co-worker to ensure she’s assessing the specs accurately. Her and her co-worker collaborated and offered me a reasonable price value. We agreed, she photo-copied my drivers license and wrote up the sales receipt. She stated they didn’t have “enough money” in the safe and she asked if I would be willing to accept part cash, part check. Henry (the Owner) seemed very friendly…at first. He offered me a Mimosa, which I politely declined. All of a sudden, the atmosphere became deceitful? Becky disappeared in the back and Henry came over and started looking at my ring. I initially thought Becky was organizing the transaction in the office? Some other random guy appeared from the back and he and Henry started whispering and having a side convo? I became very uneasy. I asked where Becky went? Henry then states he is unable to honor me the price that Becky offered? He wanted me to “come in his office” so he could explain “why”. Again, I declined. I decided that I didn’t want to do Buisness there as the operation was distorted. When I told Henry I felt uncomfortable and I was leaving, he hollered a slandering comment across the showroom, in front of customers and his staff. I just kept my head down and proceeded out the door. Please be cautious conducting Buisness here. They were inconsistent and unethical. Henry’s verbal outburst was purposely insulting and unnecessary. I’m so glad I took my Buisness elsewhere, because I received almost 19% more than what Diamonds by Rothschild offered and I wasn’t...
Read moreI needed to have the band on a new watch resized immediately. I have found it increasingly difficult to find people who can do this. It is especially annoying in downtown Pittsburgh. The first place I stopped admitted they could not do what I needed, but the person on duty recommended Rothschild's on the second floor. It took me a moment to find people. I found two men in discussion and waited for them. They finished their thought and asked how they could help. I explained my situation to them, showed them the new watch and its huge band, and said I had been told to ask for Paul.
Paul immediately identified himself and took a look at my watch. He was polite, asking for more information and talking with me. He found his tools and quickly disassembled the band. I told him that previous experience with this model of Casio watch had required removal of three links, but Paul had me try it on before final reassembly and I was happy he did so, as a fourth link needed to be removed. A final fit and a few finishing motions, and I was ready for the rest of my day.
Throughout, everyone at Rothschild's was polite and aware I was there. Paul, I found out, was doing this for me on his day off. I am glad to have found Rothschild's and its people. I will be happy to go back and highly recommend it to others. The place has atmosphere and the people make feel right, at least for me. Thanks to everyone at Diamonds by...
