We found this place last month when road closures & lack of police directing traffic caused us to miss reservations elsewhere.
This is a friendly, welcoming family restaurant featuring Ottoman food, but which also features hamburgers & crispy french fries.
The first time, my friend had a small house salad with falafel, and I had the falafel sandwich. Both were delicious with generous portions of fresh ingredients. We shared creamy hummus & pita. In the past, falafel I have had elsewhere was the color of light tan chickpeas. These have a crispy brown fried exterior and a bright, fluffy green interior, so delicious.
Our second visit, I ordered the enormously portioned Mediterranean salad with falafel, baba ganoush & pita; a friend had the same salad (we could have split one and had leftovers) with falafel. There is a "build your own salad" option, which I might try to get a smaller Mediterranean salad.
The owners are happy to explain ingredients and culture. I am eager to try the moussaka and döner chicken. Döner is the vertical rotisserie from which meats are carved, as for gyros.
One orders at the counter from a chalkboard menu and food is brought to the table on trays.
It is a clean, fresh, friendly, reasonably priced breath of fresh air in the 'burgh and our new favorite. Not fancy but inviting; it is definitely a place to seek for a delicious meal.
They also boast a coffee bar and desserts such as baklava and rice pudding.
I am not one to take pictures of my food, but I shared the vision of the salad and baba ganoush with friends. A generous portion of freshly made warm pita triangles is not visible but is off to the left of photo.

Read moreOn the new year eve, it was raining outside and we went to have some coffee in this place since other coffee places were closed. The restaurant was not super busy, maybe they serve good food or there were less options available at that time. Tasting their coffee it is sure that they surely do not specialize in it. Whatsoever, one of my friends posted a one star negative review about their coffee and cold behaved service. After a while, all of a sudden the owner came to us and started shouting that if you don’t like the coffee, then why are you still sitting here? As mentioned earlier, it was raining outside we thought of sitting here a while and sip on the coffee which we paid for. But the owner was angry because of the negative review, he started yelling at us and was threatening to call police on us for the bad review!! We politely said if you want we can leave but he was still shouting and behaving bad with us. We left the premises still he came out and was arguing! Never in my life have I faced such behavior from a restaurant owner. He could politely just ask us what was the problem and ask for feedback to improve, rather he got angry!! He was shouting and saying I don’t want 2 dollar business from you (we were six people and all of us took coffee or tea and their coffee is surely not that cheap). Money can’t buy mannerisms, Probably it is their family business, i hope he works on his anger issues to run a smooth business and...
Read moreI am a well-known Turkish cuisine gourmet Chef. Today I will tell you about Sultan, I have been to many Turkish restaurants in Pittsburgh and its surroundings. I can guarantee that this is the place that offers the best taste among these restaurants. All Turkish restaurants in the city center are not even close to the level of taste quality here. As a chef, the first impression that is most important to me is that the restaurant is clean (nine out of ten) soups, salads, kebabs, Döner, pide & lahmacun, starters, side dishes, appetizers, and dessert varieties are the same taste as a beautiful elegant restaurant in Turkey, I give it an eight and a half out of ten because of the food varieties and taste. The owner Mr. Sinan is kind and gentleman. He brings everything from flour, rice to butters and nuts, from Turkey. He pays great attention to taste and flavor. When he realized that I was a well-known chef, he showed me around his entire restaurant, the back kitchen, walking cooler and freezer, prep area, front kitchen, preparation methods are very clean, tidy and well organized(nine out of ten) I really liked it. Good job. It is not a very obvious deficiency, but the decoration in the front could have more modern lines. A more integrated decoration in American standards may make it look much more modern. But still, congratulations, he did a great job. I personally congratulate him and wish him...
