Strip District Meats, Inc. — Attraction in Pittsburgh

I love coming here , my last visit out of many was great !👍🏾💪🏾 I have to get the young mans name & send him a thank you gift! But, I have this one complaint and it occurred this morning 😒 . I called one hour and a half before I left monroeville to pick up my package. The first time I called I was still trying to get my notebook out because the night before I wrote down everything I wanted. Anyways a lady picked up the first time & I told her I’d call back within that minute I called back. A man answered & I was sure he was young because I asked him in the beginning of the conversation if he had a minute to give me a estimate of the meats I wanted as if it was a package. He responded yes, so I started to tell him what I wanted & then he cuts me off & say oh well that sounds like a variety pack which I knew & already had written down. I responded I know that it’s the total of the meats that I wanted because I didn’t want everything that came with the variety package & as I said I had it written down on what I wanted so I can just read the list. So I did & he still asked me beef or pork for two items. I proceeded to ask him if he can give me a estimate for a whole duck & duck breast . He told me the price for the whole duck and then I explained to him that I wanted veal ground meat & tried to go back through the list again to make sure it was right 😒😫🤬😤 I GOT THERE A HOUR AND A HALF LATER & NOTHING WAS RIGHT! He still gave me regular ground meat and I had to tell him no I asked for veal not regular ground meat . I got my whole duck when I got there and I requested a 10lb regular ground meat . He’s questioning me in my opinion at this point because he’s like “You have 5lbs of veal ground meat already” I responded I know I need a 10lb bag of beef ground meat. & at this point I knew he had a attitude. I pay and leave & as I get home I realize I have pork ribs and pork bacon !! 🤮🤢😷🤬 I’m furious because I hate the smell of it and also I don’t have a up and running vehicle right now so not only are your employee wasting my time & energy but my ride as well as gas ! So I will be going back up there & speaking with a manager because I come to this business way too often to be treated this way! So again yes awesome place to get meat but , some employees are just terrible. I’ve been coming here for three years for meats answers have spent a nice penny on meats and other items . I shopped here for the first time and was blown away by how great they are! It started by phone when I called to ask if they had beef tenderloins and how much they are. I then learned about “choice” and “prime” and what makes them different. I then checked with our grocery store (GE) and learned that they only have “choice”, and their price was literally $5 more per pound! Not only that, but Strip District Meats will also trim it for you and tie it in string for no extra charge, and if you’re not going to use it within a few days, they will even vacuum pack it for you. In the afternoon, I went over to buy it. I was waited on by Joyce. She was absolutely excellent and so pleasant to work with. I needed to have two pieces cut off before trying the bulk of it because two of the people who will be at the dinner like their fillet “blood rare“ so I needed to cook them separately. She was so great at accommodating what I needed. While Joyce was taking care of the order, I got to chat with the manager, Justin Hughes, who gave me wonderful advice on my (multitude of) questions on how to prepare it. I have been going to this place for 30 years never had a complaint. On June 8 I bought a pork loin and slab bacon and summer sausage. I always get my pork loin cut up into pork chops. This time when I ordered the guy that was fairly new said he had a pork loin already cut up in the freezer and since it'll save time I said sure I'd take it. He weighed up the pork loin and it came out to 29 dollars. When I got home I found out that the pork chops wasn't pork chops at all but cheap pork steak. He charged me premium pork prices for and inferior part of the hog. I was hurt and mad and very upset because my grandmother and grandfather knew the original owners of the store since they opened. It felt like we were a family because Raymond Turkas. Who my grandfather would call Ray was very good friends. My grandmother used to tell me about when they first opened in mckeesrocks 50 years ago how he and my grandfather was good friends. How we all went to the Christmas party with Ray's family. To be hustled like that broke my heart. Because I always trusted strip district meat's. Now I'm not sure if I ever want to shop there again. Mr Raymond must be turning...
