Thank you! Thank you! Thank you Playful Pets for our most perfect latest 3 additions to our family! Our Shih Tzu, Boston Terrier, and French Bulldog couldn't be more perfect for our family. Our family has gotten our small dogs from Playful Pets from over 16 years ago and we have never regretted or been disappointed. 16 years ago we got our Toy Fox terrier and Toy Poodle from Playful Pets and they both were the most loyal and fun loving dogs ,but due to old age being 15 years old they had sadly past away last year and it took our family about a year to be ready to add new pets to our family. When we thought we were ready we decided to go to the same place at where we had such loving pets from before and went back to playful pets and upon entering the staff politely asked that we sanitize our hands and I thought that was an awesome and responsible thing to request of people who are coming in to see and pet those adorable puppies. Limiting as much bacteria transfer from us to the little puppies was so responsible and I applaud them for that. While my brother, sister in law, and I were there we saw many people coming in to just pet the puppies and not serious about getting one and in my own personal opinion for all those negative comments about how the staff demanded that they sanitize their hands in a very rude tone and that the staff was so rude could be nothing further from the truth and if those people were upset just to be asked to sanitize their hands before petting the pups and they weren't even asking not to pet the puppies but just to sanitize their hands before touching the puppies were never serious in even getting those puppies, so their comments shouldn't be taken seriously and comments should be taken seriously from people who actually got a puppy from Playful Pets and not from those who were never serious about getting one. So, that day when we were there we ended up getting an adorable Boston terrier and the following day we got the shih tzu! Then several months later, like last month we brought our puppies to say hello to the staff and upon entering we fell in love with another chubby puppy, which was the French bulldog. Of course we couldn't resist and had to have him so we came back a few days later and got him! All the puppies were in great health and I would also like to applaud Playful Pets on how serious they take to the puppies' health because they take care of the puppies' health to a highly reputable veterinary hospital, called Steinbach Vet. Playful Pets also provided us documents of which states our puppies came from, day they were born, what the breeders' name and license number were, all those little details. My comment/review is a long one because I can't stand how unfair that Playful Pets and their staff have been so wrongly portrayed from people who were never serious in purchasing a puppy or couldn't afford the puppy or felt that the staff didn't kiss the ground they walked on. Of course the puppies are going to be costly because there are many factors that some do not care to think about and some are like... #1: all the puppies come from all across the nation and not from Pennsylvania so you have to think about transportation costs #2: coming from a licensed breeder, not a "puppy mill" #3: medical cost ( veterinary and shots) #4: Food #5: day to day operations and staff (don't forget they are a business and have to pay bills) To all those who are reading reviews about Playful Pets please take it from someone who actually got 3 beautiful puppies from them. They are a nice place with a wonderful staff and if your serious about getting a puppy or looking for a certain pure breed then you should definitely go see them! Once again, thank you again Playful Pets (Paige, Beth Ann, and the rest of the staff) for a repeated wonderful experiences and for our 3 little guys and making our first holiday with the 3 newest additions to our family a...
Read moreI don't know why there's such a mixture of 1 and 5 star reviews for this place, but I wanted to share our experience, which was kind of in the middle. We stopped in here on our way home from vacation just to see some puppies on our way to KoP Mall. Then we found "Shadow" a most adorable pure-bred Newfie puppy that I pretty much instantly fell in love with. We were told he had literally just arrived that morning from the breeder in Indiana, so we thought it was kind of serendipitous. The price we were given was $2400.
We left and went to the mall, all the while talking about him and looking up his breed to do some research on health issues, temper, etc. We also found that his coat coloring is apparently very rare, likely contributing to the price. We were leaving the mall and almost on the turnpike when we decided we should get him. So a U-turn later, we're back at Playful Pets picking up the newest addition to our furry family.
On the drive home, Shadow became Finn. In the weeks to come, Finn would develop a bad case of Mange, losing all the fur on his snout in the process. He also had horrible diarrhea while eating the food we bought from Playful Pets. A couple vet visits later, we ended up switching Finn off to a prescription food and our vet believes he has food allergies. He also had a pretty severe case of Giardia which wasn't helping with his poop at all.
We contacted Playful Pets and they offered to pay for a vet visit at their vet to look into both issues to get a second opinion. Their vet agreed with our vet's diagnosis and they provided us some medication for him. A few weeks later his Mange was cleared up and his fur started growing back. The Giardia cleared up as well, but he was still having digestive issues. We switched his food a second time, putting him on a Venison & Potato food, which has seemed to agree with him for the most part. To this day, he still has bouts of diarrhea lasting 1-2 days a couple times a month. We're investigating the possibility of switching him to another brand of prescription food that's essentially pre-digested proteins and is reserved for the most sensitive of stomachs.
We love Finn, more than words can convey, but I have to be honest in that overall, our experience was not one I would repeat. The store was nice, the staff were plenty friendly... but $2400 for a dog with this many medical issues this early on? I question the reputation of the breeder he was sourced from. We spent almost as much money on his initial medical treatment as we spent on him at Playful Pets.
I commend Playful Pets for their time and effort working with us and the offer they made to get a second opinion at their own vet (which did require a 3 hour round-trip drive on our part), but in the end I am less than satisfied with the experience even if I do love the fact that Finn is in my life...
Read moreWe purchased a dog from playful Pets and has significant medical issues directly from bad breeding. We have had our dog at 5 of the top vets in the Philadelphia area with all 5 stating that his condition is from bad breeding. Looking at his papers we have researched where he originally came from which is J.A.Ks puppies in Iowa which was just recently dismantled due to being a puppy laundering ring. JAKS gets these puppies from known puppy mills. When I spoke with the young lady she stated Jaks was their broker which yes that may be correct however JAKs is getting these puppies from puppy mills. The young lady kept its not a puppy mill and when asked if they have ever visited the places where they recieve their puppies from she said she refused to get yelled and hung up. If you plan on purchasing a puppy from here please research where the puppy came from prior to purchase and research every place on the papers playful pets was the 3rd owner of our dog before at 8 weeks old. They are part of the problem with puppy mill rings. We are out thousands of dollars trying to keep our dog alive. If this just helps one family not go through the pain we are going through.
The MRI and surgery will cost around 8,000. As you stated you have a 2 year guarantee this happened now at 3 years old. I am confident the vets at VSEC and University of Penn are a little more knowledgeable with genetic disorders than the unprofessional business owner responding to these reviews. Please tell my young child that her sick dog "sounds fishy" to you the buisness owner that sold a puppy mill dog. Again, please research J.A.K.S puppies in Iowa where playful pets purchases their puppies from when asked the young girl said you can't believe everything online apparently including the federal authorities.
I actually never said I had issues since we purchased the dog. Why do you keep ignoring the comment about J.A.K.' S? Are you familiar with the charges against the broker you purchase your "fur babies" from? Would you like me to send you the link on tbe charges against them? Do you even care where you get these puppies from? Again, when I asked the girl that answered the phone she stated the articles where a llie. Is that ypur stance on the broker playful pets purchases your puppies from? That the charges are false?
Are you really comparing a child with cancer and down syndrome to a puppy? I have no words but just utter disbelief.....You are extremely professional buisness I see. I am not sure why you do not have a 5 star rating with such responses as sweetheart and hunny. You should be very proud of how you run your business and comparing children with cancer to puppies with genetic disorders.
The review from Denise N is a conflict of interest seeing she is related to the manager/ owner. Please be honest with...
