Oh my experience was REALLY REALLY CRAPPY AND INTENTIONALLY SO. I read about the haunted tour through the visitors center IT SAYS THAT IT IS A SPECIAL TOUR.SO CHILDREN OF ALL AGES...once my tickets were purchased i recieved an.answer back from a marketing manager that was answering me.back anput my earlier difficulties with booking.the last spot on halloween that you had at 4pm. I was trying to book 5 people whwn.there was only room for 3. She asked my childs age I told her.that he was 4 years old and an old soul. He sits through class from 830 am to 230 pm ot is his 2nd year in school. He has avery intense fascination.with old abandoned towns. I assured her that i am a licensed emt and should anything happen.to him down there that i could provide basic life support...she was cold rude and only interested in taking no.responsibility for the broken heart that My 4 year old would have. The gist of it was it was my fault for receiving tge wrong information from a 3rd party. Adding that the 3rd party which happens to be the bisitor's center's information is 2 years old which means shes known that they've had the wrong information and as the marketing manager still feels the need tonpit the blame on me. I worked with the public before iIT NEVER MATTERED TO.ME WHOS FAULT.IT WAS I NEVER OMCE.NO MATTER HOW WRONG THEY WERE FELT COMPELLED TO MAKE MY CUSTOMERS FEEL LIKE ANYTHING NEGATIVE OR HEARTBREAKING COULD BE THEIR FAULT. I did however knkw when.it was time for me to STOP WORKING WITH THE PUBLIC. She was sure to let me know that clearly it states on their website that they must be 13 for the haunted tour when the visitors website says that it is why children of all ages are welcome because it is such a special tour. IT WASNT A NORMAL EXPERIENCE WHATSOEVER SHE WAS VERY COLD ABBRASIVE AND JUST BEING A B TO BE A B QUITE FRANKLY. I MEAN AFTER ALL WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FOUR AND 6 year.old? School age. They have experience taking directions and know how to adapt which I had made it clear by then that he could do. He was the reason we booked the tour. He is an old soul and is very fascinated with abandoned towns and trust me his ears can handle your tour. Sge was basically interested and a little pushy about refunding my money and filling our spot. I told her i would thibk about it that i hd other children that could but did not care whether they went or not and that was why they werent going not to mention it would just rub it in and drag the whole thing out for us. I let her know that It wouldnt be the same for me to go NOT WITHOUT HIM. I did let her refund my tickets. Right afterwards as I was closing a tab on my computer I noticed a clip from their own website the caption was clearly labeled HAUNTED TOUR AND DIRECTLY BELOW IT IT SAYS: that the tour was so much for adults and so much for students then it says students must show school id and that children under six are free then at the very end it says that for the haunted tour they must be 13 WHY.IS THE INFORMATION FOR THE REGULAR TOUR LISTED UNDER THE HAUNTED TOUR INFORMATION OH MARKETING ASSULTANT LORD??!?? THIS IS A VERY SAD EXPERIENCE OUR HALLOWEEN AT THIS POINT IS RUINED AND IT HASNT...
Read moreWe took the first haunted tour of the season this year. Our tour guide Bruce is a five star tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and was able to pass that knowledge on in a fun, engaging way. The tour itself was only average and I do blame the operator for that. We showed up 15 minutes early as did 7 other adults as we were told to. When we got there they said they were waiting on a group of 11. We started getting a little history when the first half of the large group walked in late and told them the other half of the group would be showing up soon. 10 minutes later another large group walks in to join the rest, with lots of children. The tour goes through small spaces and we could not fit everyone. The children were well behaved for the most part but still, they are children and were not being well monitored by the parents so it did take away from the enjoyment of the tour.
Why am I so focused on other tour participants and why did it affect my rating? This was the tour operators fault, a group that large should not have been added to our group but should have had their own private tour. Bruce even said he had to change his spiel to make it family friendly. The fact that they were 15-30 minutes late also should have been a red flag to book them separately. All of this affected my enjoyment of the tour. So to the managers of the underground tour, get your bookings in order and do NOT overbook small tours, you just make people unhappy.
Would I take this tour again? Maybe. I think I would prefer the regular history tour to the haunted tour but would not want to do it in such a...
Read moreTook this tour with our 14 year old granddaughter and everyone loved it. Claire and Bruce co-narrated the tour. Bruce is clearly a pro at this and a natural-born story-teller. it looks like Claire is learning the ropes but she's off to a great start and didn't hesitate to allow Bruce to chime in when she needed help.
The tour is well thought out and gives tremendous insights into the raising of Front Street in the early 1900's. And you get to see underground parts of the tour that you'd never find on your own. The story of the former brothel over the Family Shoe Store in and of itself is worth the price of...
