My recent dining experience at the Hook and Line Pub in Port Angeles, Washington, was nothing short of exceptional. Despite a bustling crowd of holiday travelers, the staff maintained a warm and attentive demeanor, ensuring that every guest felt welcomed and well-cared for.
The Food: A Delightful Experience
Halibut Fish and Chips with Coleslaw and Northwest Style Clam Chowder:
My better half opted for the Halibut fish and chips, paired with a crisp and tangy coleslaw, and a comforting cup of Northwest style clam chowder. The halibut was perfectly cooked, with a golden-brown crust that gave way to tender, flaky fish inside. The coleslaw provided a refreshing crunch, balancing the rich flavors of the fish. The clam chowder was creamy and flavorful, with just the right amount of seasoning and a generous portion of clams.
Pacific Cod Fish and Chips with Coleslaw and Authentic Gumbo:
I chose the Pacific Cod fish and chips, also accompanied by coleslaw, along with a cup of authentic gumbo. The cod was equally impressive, boasting a light and crispy batter that didn't overpower the delicate flavor of the fish. The coleslaw, consistent in quality, added a delightful contrast to the dish. The gumbo was a standout, brimming with hearty ingredients and a robust, spicy kick that left me wanting more.
Service: Above and Beyond
Despite the high volume of holiday travelers, the staff at Hook and Line Pub were incredibly friendly and attentive. They navigated the busy environment with ease, ensuring that every detail was taken care of without making us feel rushed. Their commitment to excellent service truly enhanced our dining experience.
Ambiance: Inviting and Comfortable
The pub’s ambiance was inviting and comfortable, providing a perfect setting for a relaxing meal. The atmosphere was lively but not overwhelming, making it an ideal spot for both locals and visitors alike.
Final Thoughts: A Must-Visit Spot

Read moreCan’t say much about how the food tasted. But the server and atmosphere was the worst I’ve experienced in a long time.
Came in on a Thursday evening around 7.45 pm. My group of 3 were seated quickly in the front near another family of 3. We waited 10 minutes before someone came to take our order.
While we waited for our food another family of four was seated. Our server finally brought my partner his beer after 15 minutes. Another 15 minutes passed. No food. However, the family that was seated slight before us had gotten their food. Then the family of 4 that was AFTER us got their food…I looked straight at the server and she walked over and said our food was coming and asked if my partner wanted another drink. He ordered another drink. Another 10 minutes passed and then he finally got his second drink. But we still no food.
My partner finishes his second drink and still no food. We keep seeing food leave the kitchen but nothing comes to us and the server does nothing even when we ask when is our food is coming.
It’s been over and hour and all we’ve gotten is two drinks. The family that was seated slightly before has finished their food and left. The family of 4 that arrived AFTER us is almost done.
We decide to pay for the drinks and leave. And the server has an attitude, does not apologize like we are being unreasonable because we are upset. It’s been over an hour and we never got a bowl of chowder, a basket of clam strips and a basket of fish and chips. It was a basic order and the server did nothing to figure out where our food was. She had the audacity to act like we were being in...
Read moreI stopped at the new Hook & Line Pub in June. This new Port Angeles restaurant is located along the ocean, bridging the shopping streets of the town with the port. It’s boasts a modern pub restaurant style design with an open kitchen, and a menu featuring regional seafood, burgers, creative pub sandwiches, and much more. Hook & Line Pub can be found at 201 E Front St, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
I met Michael, the owner, for awhile, and he treated me to a Rockfort Belgian beer and talked about his life of adventuring, world traveling, and his latest life experience of opening two restaurants in town, Hook & Line and the neighboring Kokopelli Grill. He was very kind and suggested I try the fried Halibut with fries, as well as the Smoked Salmon chowder. The halibut was fresh from down the coast, and it was cooked to perfection, as the fish was flakey and moist inside, with a lovely and satisfying crisp. It was the best fish I had had in years. It was so tender and fresh, you can really taste the difference of having frozen fish in Ohio versus fresh off the coast; such a difference, that you’re talking about the difference between decent and life changing. The fish was life changing, and the fries complimented it very well, being that they were also cooked perfectly, offering a delicious salty goodness with the ideal crispiness. The chowder was good, but had a heavy smoked flavor that sort of threw me off a bit, so I focused more on the fish and chips, which rivaled the best that I’ve had...
