This is such a great building / facility for a few shops, cafes right on the water. A lot of Port Angeles waterfront is very municipal feeling with the coast guard, paper mill, public works areas, but this place is very public friendly, inviting feel, and beautiful metal working and paintings, helpful literature on local areas, historical plaques, and architecture in the building itself. It's not very large, but has a lot in it. The views are lovely. The art gallery features pieces by local artists, from food to sporting goods, and has a wide range not only of styles like watercolor to acrylic or woodworking to metal carving, but of objects, functional pottery to wall sculptures. The ice cream shop advertising New Zealand style always has a (quickly moving) line out the door so it must be good. We usually hang out at the arcade, which has Mario Cart, pinball, car and motorcycle racing games, MS Pacman, alien invaders, claw prize machines, dinosaur hunter, fire tracer, whack-a-mole, plus toddler friendly Lowly Worm from Richard Scarry, Tigger boat, and Bert and Ernie fire engine rides. All the rides are coin operated and there's a change machine that accepts ones, fives, tens and twenties, and we only ever used ones and fives but neither machine ate our money in the many...
Read moreWe didn't get a chance to give the entire wharf complex a fair shake, as we had to catch our ferry to Victoria. We were able to stop for a quick bite to eat at Downriggers, the entrance to which is a bit annoying to find; we circled the exterior of the building before realizing it was on the second floor. That said, this is a cool community hub with a lot of draws to it, including a couple restaurants, an arcade, an ice cream parlor, two art galleries, and some assorted businesses and marine organization offices, as well as commanding a fabulous view of the harbor and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Additionally, the proximity to the marina and all of its businesses, hotels, and the aforementioned ferry makes the Wharf a central feature of the area. There's plenty of parking, some covered, some free, some available for overnight, if you're planning on staying in Victoria for a day or two, at around $12/day (or $15 at the nearby Red Lion hotel). Just be sure you park in the correct lot, or you'll be paying a much higher parking fee from the...
Read moreLegends Aecade was an awful bday party experience. If anyone is considering doing a birthday party at Legends Arcade at the wharf in PA, the price is $248.40 for maximum 8 kids, extra kids are $26 more per kid (or something like that). We ended up with 14 kids but only 8 RSVPd lol. You get $22 game play per kid, 2 large pizzas, and 1 drink per kid. If youre lucky, the pizza will come before the party is over (or you get dominoes instead for the same price as Westside with no refund on the difference). There are no decorations included. You get two tables for 90 minutes back in the back near the air hockey table where you cannot hear anything if people are playing. Of course, the place is a shared space so it's loud. 🤪 There is no set up or breakdown. You have to take your trash outside at the end and good luck finding a garbage can to use inside! Luckily we had empty bday bags. Haha. You do get table covers and plates if you ask. Sharing...
