I have to give it 5 stars, because there was nothing that made it less. But it is not a perfect place lol. I stayed here for a business conference. These kind of events are always hard for me, because I have worked in the 'event' industry at various levels, and I want to take over so bad haha. Whoever is in charge of their events/catering, needs more experience, but that really doesn't have anything to do with actually staying or recommending the hotel. I do not seek out Red Lion hotels, but this was chosen for me, and I am happy it was. My stay was delightful, and my room was great. I had main floor king, and it had obviously been redone recently, the carpet was reasonably new, the decor was delightful, and the bed...oh the bed...it was pure perfection. i give the bed 10 stars. I could have lollygagged in that bed all day. My room was mostly spotless. I say mostly because some areas were a little dusty, like the clock and the flat of the lamp, but that is me being fussy. the bathroom does not appear to be a part of the recent upgrade. and it really doesn't need it, but the lower tiles could use a regrout. You see they are like crooked teeth, becuase this building has settled, deeply settled, or is still settling. the floors are noticeably uneven, example my entry door goes from no gap to like an inch or 2 gap, do not try to navigate the halls anything less than sober, they roll all over the place, it was a fun running joke throughout the weekend. Not a big deal, doesn't take away from the experience. I will say, if you can get an upper floor, and by that don't mind climbing stairs (no elevator) then do, because the person above me, starting at 5 am until they finally slammed the door one last time at 8, must have put in 10k steps. The rooms are spacious, but seriously, how can you move around that much, and I heard and felt every step and door slam. But, that was go home day, and i needed to get my arse going anyway, but the bed held me down for quite a while. Other than that, the sounds of the upstairs did not affect my stay in anyway. I suspect they were part of the same convention as me, because they were rarely in their room. The view....mmmhmmm can't be beat. check in was a simple process, it took me longer to check out than in. I walked in with a Good morning, and got a glance, and that was about it, until he asked me if i wanted a receipt, and I said yes please. Maybe he isn't a morning person, I don't know, but is what it is. I got checked out, so that is all that really matters i guess. If you need a dark room, you will get it with this place, those curtains are straight black out! The couch was wonderful, honestly, everything about the room, was near perfect. the building isn't exactly a secure building, some of the card locks work, others, you just pull on the door. when i first went to enter the building i used the key card, and it wouldn't work, and I waved it around trying to find the spot, and no red/green, not click. grrr, then i just pulled on the door and it opened, but the other doors required the key card, and the one closest to my room that i used the most, needed the card about 75% of the time. They are renovating, or sprucing up, inside and out, and it shows. the location is great as well, you have the Wharf that is close, there are lots of fun shops within easy walking distance, and lots of food options, which is HUGE, because I would strongly recommend avoiding the restaurant at all costs. They are slow, most of the food is meh, adequate, and very expensive, but when it is not edible they don't care, won't offer to make you something else, just shrug and give you a bill, tip included . The bar is cool, service is a little slow, which in general is a theme when dealing with the hospitality side of this location. (the reason this doesn't affect my rating is because I understand it is off season, and they probably don't have the staff )Short story long, recommend, and will choose to...

Our journey began with me trying to call the evening before to find out pool hours. I got an automated system that hung up on me. I then tried again and got to the reservation desk. They did not have the correct information. They gave me another phone number that put me back into the same automated system that hung up on me. I again got through to another reservation agent who told me that the pool was open 24 hours. I never ended up speaking to a live person who worked at the lobby of this location. It turns out the pool was open until 11:00 p.m. These hours should be posted on the website. When we arrived check in was easy. And the water view from our room was beautiful. It was a nice distraction from how filthy the hallway carpets were and how the building smelled like dogs and smoke. Once inside the room, the surprises kept coming. The lamp bases and switch plates were dusty and dirty. The microwave buttons had a previous guest's dried crusted food and fingerprints on the buttons and side, as well as the mini fridge handle. The front edge of the tv credenza was so filthy it turned my bleach wipe black. When we pulled the desk out to use it as a table, the back left corner had dust and crumbs on it. There was a previous guest's water bottle in the corner in the curtains. The bathroom appeared clean, but the toilet smelled like pee. During covid, I would expect a BARE MINIMUM level of cleanliness where I'm not having to question whether high-touch areas (buttons, switches etc) have been wiped down. We did end up going to use the pool, which was very nice and not crowded. However the hot tub/whirlpool was out of service. Sleep was fine, however the previous guest's alarm went off at 6 am. (Again, WHY are the housekeepers not resetting the room?) Luckily we were able to get back to sleep. They also state there is a "coffee maker" which I was going to use for hot water. No, it is a single cup off-brand coffee pod machine, and they only provided one decaf coffee pod. We used our own coffee grounds and napkins to fashion a single filter for each of us to have a cup of coffee in the morning.

In the end, it seems like this is a stop in the road type of place that doesn't care about the guest's actual experience, but is fine if you just want to sleep and shower.

Tips: Bring bleach wipes and your own coffee, and check the alarm clock before you go to sleep and you should be OK.

Cons: smelly, dirty, no covid cleaning protocols, no direct number to the lobby, housekeepers not thorough.

Pros: super comfortable beds, nice pool, gorgeous water view,...

Extremely disappointed with Red Lion Hotels, it was my first time and last time staying with them. This was a disgusting hotel, the room was filthy and it stunk like cigarettes and mold. The carpets were full of stains, everywhere. The toilet was stained and there was black mold behind the sink faucet. We were in the room for about an hour and the smell was intolerable, so we decided to check out early and go elsewhere. During the process of checking out, nobody bothered to ask me why I was checking out early, terrible customer service. To add insult to injury, in addition to the $325/night that I already paid for that filthy room, they decided to charge me an extra $55 for early checkout. The Red Lion hotel has ripped me off. I wasn't even warned this was coming, they just charged me. I was appalled. And the only reason I found out was because I asked for a receipt, they expected me to leave without one. As soon as I spotted this and found out what it was, I asked them to remove this fee. It's not my fault that their rooms are so disgusting. They said only the manager can remove that fee. When I asked to see the manager I was told that person won't be in until Monday. At that point, I asked for a different room to get my extra $55 fee reimbursed, so the front desk people ask each other if there's another room of "the same type" as my old room. Really?! I waited a few minutes for them to find a room of the "same type" and eventually got tired of waiting. Not to mention I didn't want another disgusting room. I told them I was leaving and would deal with this charge later. I didn't want to spend another minute around this horrible place with their horrible customer service. I called the manager on the following Monday and told her my experience, and she refunded me the extra $55 for early checkout, but she didn't even apologize for the state of the room. I do not recommend this...
