TLDR; Home Depot's third party delivery company is difficult to work with. Staff in the appliances department at this Portage branch seem condescending and unwilling to compromise in order to allow appliance pick-up (and avoid third-party delivery). Staff in truck rental (for appliance pick-up) have a tendency to make sexist and derogatory "jokes" that can be harmful to customers.
I bought a portable dishwasher on Home Depot's website. As per policy, I was expecting a call one day prior to delivery to schedule a time to be available for receiving the appliance. I received that call on the day of delivery, 20 minutes prior to the delivery truck arriving to my home. Since I could not be home in 20 minutes (45 minute commute for work), they (the company Home Depot outsources deliveries to) told me to reschedule delivery to over a week later with no option to request a delivery time. I called Home Depot corporate to request other options for appliance pick-up (since I commute 45 minutes for work). Corporate spoke to management at the Portage branch, confirming that I can reorder with the store directly and have the appliance delivered for pick-up at the store at my availability.
I call this store as directed and speak with a man in appliances, who refuses to place the order and laughs at my request. I tell him that his manager just confirmed the request, and he assures me that it is impossible to deliver an appliance for pick-up due to improper self-installation voiding warranties (even Home Depot's own protection plan). I remind him that it is a portable dishwasher (which is "installed" prior to each use), and he again assures me that I am mistaken. After 15 minutes of this, he speaks with his manager, who apparently tells him that appliances can be shipped to the store directly for pick-up. He returns (with no apology) to tell me to complete the order online and put the store address as the delivery address, and then he basically hangs up on me.
I call back and speak to a women in customer service (she was absolutely wonderful and saved my whole experience with Home Depot!). She got it ordered for me, set the store as my delivery site, and even applied a coupon for me.
I went to pick up the washer and actually picked it up from the wonderful customer service woman. Unfortunately, the washer was half an inch too big for our vehicle, so we needed to rent a vehicle from Home Depot to get this thing home. The Rental department's printer was out of ink and made them unable to rent anything for close to 25 minutes. After getting all the paperwork done, a different worker realizes what we're trying to use this vehicle for and tells us that we should have rented a different vehicle. This recommendation is useless to a customer having already signed for a vehicle.
We load the dishwasher in the truck ourselves and deliver it to our house. We return the truck, and the worker asks what we bought. We tell him, "a dishwasher". This worker looked at my husband and asked, "why are you getting a dishwasher, is she too lazy to wash your dishes?"
I have never been so disrespected by a worker in my life.
To Home Depot: you were our preferred store, but you were a severe disappointment. The reason we purchased from Home Depot over Lowe's was because the appliance was $30 cheaper at Home Depot; this experience was certainly...
Read moreI have been shopping at this store for years and never had a problem until today earlier in the day I went to Home Depot to buy a Christmas ornament for outside from the garden Center it was almost dark so I checked the entrance gate to the Garden Center and it looked closed until I walked up to it and noticed there was not a lock on it because instead of entering from the Inside I thought i could just go on to the gate because I knew where the item was from earlier in the day well come to my surprise the gate was just shut and not locked so I opened it and entered in but when I looked at the little customer shack there was a employee just sitting inside staying warm he did not greet me i had to say hello first which is wrong the employees should greet you any way he was very rude like I had bothered him or something I think he was avoiding customers that walked through the gate so he was basically killing time and staying warm there were no customers in the outside garden Center so I proceeded to walk over and grab the Item I was going to purchase then I walked toward the shack where Employee was staying once i approached him i said i am all set I began to ask if I could have the plant hanger that the Item was hanging on that's when I asked can i have the hanger to take home to hang it with because i had mentioned to him earlier in that day that the other employee said that I could have it well this employee said no those are from here so I said well can I speak to the Manager to ask he or she if I could have it I said could you call the manager i would like to speak to he or she he said just go to the customer service desk then I thought you have a phone right there to call so I proceeded to the customer service desk which was located inside then someone contacted manager well that person was also rude finally the manager approached me and I explained the situation to him then we walked back outside and I showed him what I was trying to explain to him the situation then he replied oh know those have to stay here those are for flowers for summer i said but earlier the other employee stated that I could take the one it was hanging from so I was directed to a hangar that I could purchase so that it would be able to hang it from that so i bought it but I have spent tons of Money in this store for them not to just give me the hangar that it was on the hangar probably only cost 50 cents to produce so I proceeded to check out i think its a shame that they could just let me have the hangar the lat words the manager said the first one that I was given he said oh by the way i wont charge you for the first one you can keep it I was like REALLY unbelievable I will shop at LOWES from now on Thanks Home Depot for your lousy...
Read moreWish Google offered -5 start reviews. We ordered our front door through home depot in Portage, MI. We called and scheduled someone to come out and measure the door. They said the trim needed to be taken off for this. This appointment got rescheduled once. When the guy finally came he said the trim didn't need to be taken off, they couldn't get us the measurements for this but would pass them onto the store and they would call us once it was calculated (because that seemed complicated), never got the call. We should have went elsewhere at this point. We go into home depot were the lady has to search for our measurements. We order our door at over 1,200.00 and she says it will be 3-4 weeks. Fine we can wait. In the mean time we decide since the trim is off we will paint the entryway and freshen the space. The domino effect happens and we have to replace some dry wall around the door, but have to wait until it's installed. Five weeks after ordering it we call and get passed from person to person only to be told its just not in and they don't have a date. At the end of week 6 we call again and they say that a note has been put out that they will call us either that day or Monday to set up the install. No call...Tuesday we call them only to be told they left us a message and those don't always go through. Anyone know what that means? They said we have one other person in front of us and we will get a call between 8 and 10 am on Friday. I never knew it took more than 3 days to install a door. It's now Friday at 10am. My only day off with the family this week and we have waited all morning for this "call" to come in. Finally we call them and they are confused because it says next friday. Home depot gives us the number to United Home Services (who they contracted out) and they transfer us to the girls that are incharge of installation only to get a voice mail and leave a message. That was 20 minutes ago. Now we are headed up to home depot with our receipt of an estimated install...
