5 stars although one of my dogs got hit by a truck that weekend and it was hard to scramble all my stuff together and get to him when I got the call. Nothing to do with the beach itself. I saw a review of Poets from last year where someone said they weren't at all bothered by the one homeless woman there. I wonder if that was me. If so I'm glad I didn't bother him. But not homeless I just decided to camp illegally that weekend. Folks were camping illegally everywhere else with impugnity so, why not me on this great little beach? (Check out the photo of one of my dogs and my tent that night) It was lovely, peaceful before the call, and I experienced an interesting energy of Portland that I don't think I would have otherwise. Like the heartbeat of a loved one, when I put my hand on their chest, lovingly while they're sleeping. Sad thing about my great little guy Rocco. My feelings about this beach are a little mixed. Happy 4th of July. TGFI (I just made that up it means thank God for...

I swam here on Aug 25th, 2018, almost the last day of the season (closes Aug 26th, 2018) and the water level was very low - about mid-thigh at the edge of the swimming area. If you want a real swim, go to Sellwood Park or George Rogers Park in L.O. where the water is actually deep enough to swim in.
This park is a very nice idea - an urban oasis with sand, rocks, shade from the bridge, and even poetry. It could be good for families with kids who want to play in the sand or wade but it's not really a place for adults to swim. If you do go, you absolutely need to wear shoes, as the bottom is really mucky, with a possibility of sharp objects. Water quality is generally fine, though it's shallow so you'll stir up a lot of mud as you...
Read moreA small easy to get to neighborhood beach along the Williamette River kitty corner from the Marriott Residence Inn Waterfront hotel. Located under the highway 5 over passes on the river. Not many visitors know where this beach is during the year. Public transportation is the best way to get there as parking is hard to find in the area. Wonderful sonnets are engraved in the walkway stones from native children down to the beach. When the snow melts miles up river and the river rises the beach almost disappears from view. As the waters recede the sandy beach opens up. I pretend the noise from the highway above is ocean surf...
