This place is so cute! They apparently opened up 3 weeks ago. There's around 3-4 seats inside and a few outside, but it's very much so a small place to mostly pick up. It's located right next to some gardens on the water, which was such a great vibe. My friend and I sat outside for a while enjoying the weather.
I think everything is vegan, and it tasted amazing. I got the 16oz iced mocha with, I think, pumpkin hazelnut milk. My friend ordered a 16oz chai with the same milk. I think they also have homemade oat and almond milks. There's no uncharge since those are their standard milks. I think our total was $15, which is unfortunately pretty average price nowadays.
Because the shop is low impact, they don't give away disposable cups. Instead, you can bring your own and get $0.25 off your order or buy one of their disposable glass jars for a dollar. It seems like you can use them in perpetuity, or if you bring it back, you get your dollar back. She gave me a thick bamboo straw too, which is so much better than paper straws! She also gave us screw on lids, which came in handy as we were walking around all day. Way better than cups with holes! There was a water jug with some limes and sturdy glass cups.
And in general, the barista was very kind, sweet, and helpful!
Side notes: There are no restrooms there because it's just a little stall basically, but there are public restrooms next to it. I'm also not sure about how wheelchair accessible it is because of how small it is, but there's no stairs or anything. There's some street parking right outside/nearby and a...
Read moreWas excited to come visit this cute little spot before my tour started and since it was recommended by the tour company. First impression wasn’t great.
The barista who served me on Sunday 15 June was not very friendly, messed up my order and did not even apologise or properly acknowledge their mistake which made me feel uncomfortable. I asked for a matcha latte iced, I received it hot. In a rush, I took it out and returned 30 seconds later when I realised there was no ice (sometimes hot drinks are cooled with ice) so I didn’t know. I came back to say I wanted it iced, and yes I got that remade which I appreciated but the entire 2 minute ordeal was uncomfortable and awkward without an acknowledgement or smile. I personally felt like the barista didn’t believe that I requested it iced even though my e-receipt confirmed that I did.
When I requested my matcha, there was no sugar which I did not expect but I would’ve appreciated a more talkative, customer orientated friendly barista to tell me about what I’m ordering and the option to add syrups etc because I didn’t know it would be like that.
I liked the reusable glass aspect which I continue to use, but I am disappointed about the service I received. Now I would have had no issue with making a mistake with my order, it was just the customer service experience that when I realised my drink would taste like that I felt not welcome to ask if I could add a syrup to it etc. I can also understand having bad days, but the energy of your workers can affect the mood of your...
Read moreI was so excited to discover a cafe using reusable cups and mugs and committed to sustainability - most cafes are horrible on this and generate so much waste with their single use disposable serviceware. My excitement quickly faded when I realized this place is vegan but not clearly marketed as such, so please do note that you cannot get coffee with regular cow’s milk or pastries with butter. If you ask for this, you will receive a condescending response about how this is not “minimal impact” on the environment, while being offered resource intensive almond milk grown in drought stricken CA as a better alternative. 🤷♀️ The pastries made without butter are not good - if you have had a proper cardamom bun elsewhere, you will have trouble choking this one down. My search for a sustainable cafe with good-tasting products continues. The pluses are the location of this cafe - the public park around it is beautiful and the river views are lovely - and their use of reusable...
