Until and unless State Theatre decides to actually enforce the rules regarding disruptive guests laid out on their website, don't waste your money. Or, they could formally change the rules and not falsely advertise their willingness to handle drunk and inappropriately loud audience members. Our experience at State Theatre was completely ruined by an obnoxious and belligerently drunk group standing around behind us who would not shut up. This was for an artist who is known for her quieter and acoustic tracks, not a rock show. Multiple people in our section moved; I was unable to do so as I am disabled and required the rear balcony seat I was in. I should note that when we first came in, the people working the entrance were EXTREMELY welcoming, escorted me inside, and emphatically told me to come to a staff member with any issues caused by my disability.
Not being able to move from a group that was ruining our night by breaking explicitly stated theater rules seemed to qualify. Numerous complaints to staff (including from at least one other person not in our group) went entirely unanswered. I'm pretty sure the they didn't even come up to check. This forced an avoidable confrontation between guests, as the group was impossible to ignore. Guess how far politely asking them to keep it down some got us.
It doesn't matter how good the sound was or wasn't, how nice or not the atmosphere was, how good or overpriced the food was, or any of that, because it all became immaterial. Based on the rules set out clearly on the website, we had an expectation that we could enjoy a concert we paid a decent price for. We expected that if guests near us were flagrantly breaking these rules, a staff member would at least attempt to assist. We did not expect to be treated so rudely by staff, or to be told to move without regard for my disability. I suppose all adults know that expectations don't always equal reality, and boy were we off the mark.
As of right now, you couldn't pay...
Read moreI had high expectations for this venue. It has been around for a long time or so I was told so you'd think it would be seamless. I found that half of the staff at the event were miserable and distant while the other half were happy to be there and would go out of their way to socialize and assist any needs, questions, or concerns. They were very touchy feely in their search to enter. Borderline inappropriate with the woman in my group. And yes, I witnessed the male security fondle their backsides prior to letting them enter the building. To top that off, what is the point of spending extra money to get closer to the stage? No one scanned or even looked at our tickets. We could've purchased the furthest seats in the venue and walked right to the stage barrier without so much as someone making eye contact. Then we can talk about the lack of HVAC in this facility. It was easily 25 degrees warmer in the building than it was outside and all I noticed were two metal fans attached to the wall in the back of upper deck of the mezzanine/ balcony and they weren't even running. I struggle with overheating in temperatures above 70 degrees and I nearly passed out in the venue due to that fact. But like many other venues, once you're inside you are not allowed to leave otherwise you cannot reenter. On the up side, the sound quality was really good and they do put water stations out at no additional cost. I don't think I would visit this venue again unless it was a performer that I've never seen and were willing to suffer in order to get the chance. Maybe I'm being overly critical but tickets aren't cheap and traveling over 3 hours 1 way is costly enough, I would hate to add a last minute medical bill to that overall price just to support the...
Read moreLast night, I went to see King Princess. The venue was beautiful, the concert was amazing, but there was a lady that was standing at the barricade, who had the entire wingspan of her arms stretched along it. When she had turned around to raise her hand to show the person that she was waiting for where she was, I rested my arms directly in front of me on the barricade. When she turned back around to face the barricade, she pushed her elbows directly up against mine, and leaned with all of her body weight, which left a nasty bruise on my elbow. She was leaning on me, pushing me, shoving me, flipping her hair at me, etc. The whole time that she was doing this, security/event staff were watching but proceeded to do nothing. At one point, I had my hand on the barricade and she was pushing against it so hard that it was starting to really hurt, so I strategically slid my elbow up to the EXACT same spot where my hand was. When I did that, her arm slid off of the barricade because of how much weight she had been applying to my hand. She shoved me and started yelling at me to stop pushing her, but I am a young teenager, so in my native language I told her I don’t speak english. She continued to yell and lean on me and push me around and the person she was with ended up leaving and watching from the window up at the top behind the crowd. I saw that security and event staff watched the whole thing, but they didn’t do anything about it. I inserted a photo of the bruise on my hand from...
