If you are not an overt open and vocal supporter of the LGBTQ.......COMMUNITY, then this place is not for you. And I mean not just indifferent(as I and my wife are to it) but flag waving and obvious....you will be treated with open distain. The waitress(aptly named since all we did was WAIT for her) displayed open disdain and indifference for us. She was rude and slow (yes, it was busy, but she was behind the bar drinking and clowning with other customers and presumably friends) when we were 36 mins waiting for ANY sort of service. The web sight states they don't take reservations....fine...but when we walked in to be seated the hostess took a young couple right past us (we did arrive first) asked them if they were here first..to which they replied " we got our text". So apperently there is a special way to get moved to the front of the line....past the FIRST COME FIRST SERVED schmucks. Now..the food we ordered was terrible. We got no further than an appetizer and water and one cocktail. That put us well over the 30 min mark. In this time no less than 3 other tables received their orders and dined and left before we received and completed the abysmal appetizer. Including the couple who apperently "got the text." I had plenty of time to actually observe them and see what took place. They ordered a full meal and ate . When I finally was able to get a third party to retrieve our now openly intoxicated server... she brought our ticket, and I paid CASH on a 27. Dollar bill. She was handed 40 dollars cash and had the audacity to ask if I expected Change! I simply said no because I didn't have another 30 mins to waste on a drunk, rude, and terribly unskilled wait staff member. So...in summary...this ignorant unskilled drunk and disdainful employee of this establishment recieved roughly a 40% tip on a 27 dollar debacle while being nasty and lousy at her job in a place who's only goal was to promote a political and social agenda. I dont have any issue with the community or its message but the "Resturant/bar" did an abysmal job on food and drinks while treating us like we were shitting in the middle of the floor at their party. Never again. Not once more. And we drove 4 hours round trip to Portland in the apperently vain hope of finding decent Mexican food since the internet reviews seemed to have nothing but praise for the food. The food was horrible. I lived 20 years in southern Arizona so I know a thing or three about ACTUAL Mexican food. This ISNT IT. KEEP YOUR MONEY and go right past this...
Read moreMy sister, a friend, and I went to go for outdoor seating around 5:30pm today. They had no 3-4 person tables available outside and we would prefer to eat outside because of COVID. They took down my name and number and said they would call me when the table was available. We all went back to our dorm on Oak Street and waited in the common room for them to call. At around 6:25 we decided to go there and see what was taking so long. We got there and a 3-4 person table was empty. They then gave that table to a different group of 3 people. So I said politely “Excuse me, you were supposed to call us for that table when it was free.” She acknowledged me and then proceeded to give them the table and asked what my name was. I gave her my name and her excuse was “We tried to call you multiple times but no one picked up.” I had NO missed calls and my volume was up the ENTIRE time. I even showed the waitress my calls AND missed calls and my last call was from Wednesday afternoon. So I asked her if she’s sure she called the right number. She read my number back to me (10 digits since I’m not from Maine so it’s a different area code) and I said yes, that’s my number. The waitress then told me that they indeed did call the right number (even though I showed her that no one called me) and said she’d put me back on the list and asked for alternative number. My friend gave the waitress her number but instead of leaving we decided to wait outside. At around 7:00pm we said it wasn’t worth the wait and left to find other food because we were so hungry. At 7:13pm Taco Escobarr called my phone number (and I even looked it up on Google and matched it, so it WAS them) and said nothing. There was a lot of background noise and it sounded like someone was breathing on the other end of the line. I said “Hello?” THREE times and they hung up. And they NEVER call the alternative number/my friends number ONCE. I’m extremely disappointed and frustrated with the restaurant, the waitress, and the service. I never post reviews but I am so disappointed and frustrated that I felt the need to post this. Their food is decent and all we wanted was Mexican food and outdoor seating. I will not be going back for a while. From now on, we’ll just be ordering takeout and eating it at a nearby...
Read moreMy family hyped up Taco Escobarr a bunch, as I am a huge fan of mexican cuisine myself I was very excited to get in. First off, this place is AWESOME. The decor and atomsphere this place has is great. The lighting is just perfect, little chili pepper lights are strung along the ceiling leaving the ambience of the restuarant one of the best I've ever seen. A HUGE plus was their selection of Jarriotos Soft drinks, Orange is my favorite. We started out with the Queso Fundito, which was great. Full of scallions, and surprisingly enough the scallions weren't slimey. We got most of the toppings on the side, the jalapeños were SUPER hot. I got mostly seeds on my first bite and it was spicy. The chips were hot and fresh, all around that was a good experience. The service was lacking slightly, however it was a very busy night. (As i imagine it is every night) although there should not be any excuse for making your patrons feel not important, or if you could be doing something more important. Although we did not run into this that much, so no worries! Other than that the service was slightly above average. For dinner, my father ordered three tacos which were not what he ordered. He still liked them, saying they were "So damn good, he didn't really care". Mine came just as I ordered. Al pastor and Chicken on crispy tacos. I figured my family perhaps overhyped the meal. Do not get me wrong, the food was very good. However, I felt as though the cilantro was over powered by the protein of the meal. Cilantro traditionally like Lime or Lemon brightens up and freshens the dish. Though I saw cilantro but had no level added to the flavor of the dish. The al pastor pork was probably my favorite part of the meal. Though the flavors were great it again overpowered much of the smaller hints of flavor that are present in Mexican cuisine. The shells on themselves, left me wishing I had went with their masa soft taco shell. The crispy was fantastic, though I love the masa/corn flour flavor that was present in the soft taco. Overall the food at Taco Escobarr was very good. However left me feeling I missed the "Wow!" Factor. The atomsphere feels so exciting and fun, I would love to sit at the bar someday! I will...
