No organization at the door however one employee wailing at the 4 of us to somehow get in!! After driving 3 of my friends to this grimey, scene, camp , glorified crackhouse I responsibly stayed sober for the safety of our group. In my utter clarity I was in an elevated area where I was able to get numerous photos and videos of my friends and the person who was claiming that she felt unsafe because of one of my friends who is like family to me. He is the kindest, and most enthusiastic person in the world of hardcore music. He was the same energy as anyone else who was around him and yet the two most extra women who were the “door security” were steadfast in the decision to assert their “power” by saying that my friend was no longer welcome in this hole. After he and another girl were hugging in front of the cashier after just doing the same thing in front of the stage (again on camera). We purchased 4 tickets for Sheer Terror and did not get a moment of that show. These are life long fans who have been still scratching their heads about this overly dramatic performance by this girl who clearly thought she was tough in front of 30 people. All smiles before that and she stood there antagonizing my friend because she was uncomfortable with how he hugged a person that he connected to over music. This chick is the best example of why Portland is trash and you can bet on the reputation of this place getting shredded by people who know a lot of people. Took our money. Smiled and said to buy merch and tip well. None of us are new to the service/hospitality industry. You need a capable security person at your door. I promise she won’t cut it for long. Or when she is not trying to create a power differential with a huge fan on his birthday. She was maybe a bit woke but I personally wouldn’t have hesitated to square up with her and her complete lack of experience and conflict resolution. It was condescending and immature. Luckily I’ll never be back. This was a joke and perhaps a supervisor/manager would have been better off than two angry chicks taking out there issues on a guy trying to enjoy his birthday. Gross. 🤢 Portland ME. You truly are the extra artsy woke garbage that you are so proud of....
Read moreI would never give my favorite place less than a 5 star rating. I love going to Geno’s. It’s been one of my constants when everything else seems on the brink of collapse. It is the most intimate and comfortable setting to see all my favorite metal and punk bands and the atmosphere is fun and electric. Drinks are affordable. Cash only with an ATM in the lobby. The drag shows and annual Raunchy Rabbit Easter Burlesque are not to be missed. I love how inclusive and friendly the space and events are. The owner is very hands-on and does an excellent job booking talent. Surely the staff has had to deal with lots of shit from patrons over the years, and even though the personal touch seems to be gone, I’m so happy to see this business experience growth and a boom in popularity. Lots of changes in the decor and interior of the place keeps things vibrant and alive. Special events are super fun, like the Pink Pony Club nights, which seems to be good at attracting more young people and welcoming new visitors. So fun to drive by and see what decorations are on the rooftop. The security team and door person do a great job and it can’t be easy as the gatekeepers. I think they may be contracted as there are often different people at the front that I don’t know. Do I pine for the past where I’d be greeted with a smile and a popped can of PBR before I even sit down? Yes. Will I still go for the music even though I don’t feel as welcomed? Also YES, because music and inclusivity is life. Long live Geno’s, and hopefully me, so I’ll still have the corner seat at the bar and a ticket to see legendary acts...
Read moreI feel complety discrimanated against because your bartender guy accused me of nonsense. Im a artist and im autistic. Im friendly to people im not a threat to anyone i respect other people. If they want to judge me because im autistic and say they feel uncomfortable because im different thats not right. Your bartender raised his voice out loud gave me a panic attack and i even tipped him and the last drink i bought he threw the money back in my face... ive never been treated like that. I felt like a piece of trash to be treated that way. It mentally affected me. I will be speaking to the ada and a civil rights group. People with autism and develamental disorders have rights just like everyone else. Ive been nice and tipped and treated all your bartenders nice even the guy who treated me like dirt... no one should ever be treated that way.
