We drive over an hour and a half to this store at least once every few months. Weâve been doing this for years. Authentic products that are hard to find locally. Today will be our last time here. Before I share my experience, Iâd like to say this is by far the best practice of keeping customers safe in any store I have seen. Customers must wear a face mask, wash their hands before entering, grab a cart and they do satanize each cart after use. Very organized! When my daughter and I first walked up, we tried entering the front door, the woman said you need to go around back to enter. Talking to my daughter, I said, âwe donât have time for thisâ as we had an appointment 20 minutes later down the road. We walked all the way around the long building to the back and were waiting in line to wash our hands. The gentleman worker approached me (in front of other customers) and said, â oh! So you decided to come in after all?â I asked him what he meant and he mocked me âwe donât have time for this.â In shock, I said that I was talking to my daughter and asked if he would rather we left the store. He then said, âYou seem to have an issue with following the rules.â I told him I had absolutely no issue, but I did have an issue with the way he was treating me. This was actually just after I had told my daughter I liked their setup. Felt completely discriminated against, and attacked. We will find another similar store to accommodate our needs that treats their...
Read moreFrom many years ago, I was impressed with this place...until a few days ago. My daughter and her mother (my Japanese ex-wife) illegally parked in their lot last Saturday night. They were towed, which could be reasonably expected as they had parked illegally. What wasnât expected was that the tow truck caused some small damage to the car - a low mileage late model car. And the towing company tried to cover up their mistake and blame my daughter for the damage. And to make matters worse, apparently the market was aware of what happened and tried to join in with the dishonest driver. The whole incident leaves a bad taste, but it appears that the market must get a kickback for towing charges. Mysteriously, when asked about surveillance tapes, they claimed that the camera was disabled because of some kind of construction, and they volunteered information showing that they were already aware of the incident. Why would they even know that? We are still waiting for copies of the ânonexistentâ tapes from the towing company. A rip-off is a rip-off, and itâs disconcerting that the store joined in with the sleazy behavior of the tow driver and his company. I know of at least 2 good customers that theyâve lost at this point, and it makes one wonder what else they could be...
Read moreI've been going to this place for years. An excellent place for Japanese and Korean goods. Especially when all the other Asian markets are focused more on southeast Asia. And now about the mask issue. People: please read the sign outside the entrance. No entitlements, no arguments, etc. The tone of the sign should give people a clue that masks are going to be a requirement in this place. The presence of hand sanitizers and a faucet right before entering the store area are also hints. I've known the owner for years. He is VERY sensitive about the mask issue and people wearing them properly. To the people who experienced his tirades: you were warned. The sign out front should have been a tipoff that masks are required. If you've had ANY breathing issues, can't wear a mask properly, etc. DO NOT ENTER THE STORE! I may sound harsh, but it's his business, his rules. Don't expect him to drop the mask mandate anytime soon.
12/24 update: apparently the store has changed ownership, because the mask mandate has been gone for nearly a year. Strangely though, one artifact of the COVID era still remains: the back entrance/front exit situation. And a sign that informs people not to bring in any open containers...
