The Percy Inn has all the charm of a Bed & Breakfast, yet still offers you the comfort & convenience of having your own private bath. This is a beautiful historic building. The rooms are beautifully decorated, and overall it's clean and well cared for. That being said, guests should keep in mind that the age of the building adds character that some may find a challenge. For example, the stairs are narrow, steeper than most, and twist their way up to the 3rd floor. We were staying on the 3rd floor, and the floor creaked quite a bit under us as we walked around our room. Since we are night owls, I was concerned that we may have been bothering those in the room beneath us. For these reasons, if you have small children or physical challenges, I'd suggest booking a room on the first floor. The 2nd floor breakfast room was well stocked each morning with fruit & pastries/muffins. Our room had a mini fridge with complimentary sodas. There was a sweet public room on the 3rd floor with books & games. Check in and check out were simple. We were greeted each morning by Cindy, who was as knowledgeable about the area as she was welcoming and cheerful. She is genuinely concerned that you enjoy your stay. The Percy Inn is a gem and to top it all off, the pricing was very reasonable in comparison to other hotels &...
Read moreWhat a great place! (Since 2018). We stayed in the Elizabeth Barrett Browning room (yes next to the front door) and loved it. Newly updated this room was so comfortable (loved the gas fireplace). The Inn owners Dale and Misael are very genuine, outgoing, informative and very knowledgeable about the history and places to eat in Portland... steered us to great venues.
Continental breakfast was good and we loved the set up of the dining area and having access to snacks 24/7.
Thank you for the great ambiance and hospitality.
We plan on returning!
(2024 Visit, still a wonderful establishment in a perfect location in Portland)
(2025 Visit, exceptional as always!)
P.s. (2018) We found our room, next to the front entrance, to be quite acceptable. We were a little worried by some of the reviews, but we've had far noisier experiences in those typical long huge hotel hall ways with the throngs of people walking through, getting ice and elevators. Street noise nothing. Even if the windows had been open the noise was just normal. Unless you need to bed yourself in a complete vacuum don't let the negatives count...
Read moreI have pretty thick skin and I have dealt with my fair share of personalities in the hospitality industry. But this interaction with (I am assuming) the owner of Percy Inn was worth a 1-star review and warning. I called to take over the reservation of a friend who was no longer able to make their trip to Portland (he had already cleared it with the hotel that they could swap it and I just needed to call to put it in my name). The owner answered (on a personal cell phone it sounded like, while he was driving.....). I asked what the cancelation policy is and he sort of off the cuff said "up to 2 weeks before the day the reservation started." I very politely said "Oh ok! I need to confirm with the person who is staying with me if that works for her and I will call back asap." He then began the most long-winded, horrid diatribe about how people (who I don't even know) are too "fluid" and should just cancel their reservations to free up the rooms for "normal" people. I replied "Oh? Normal people huh?" So safe to say I will not be staying at the Percy Inn. I hope he finds some "normal" people and quits taking hotel calls...
