Rude and aggressive staff. My wife and I were so excited to come and enjoy the "new place in town." We enjoyed our dinner at Caldwell County BBQ and chatted with the workers of different amenities on site. Everyone was friendly and did a great job. Until that is we get approached by a man on a skateboard who accused us of trespassing in a restricted area. It later turned out his accusations were proven false. No apology was given. This is the reason for the one star review. My wife and I left feeling very upset instead of how we felt before the encounter. - Here's how it went. There is a huge area that has multiple pathways leading to it. We saw people up on a hill and navigated our walk in that direction. We enjoyed the surroundings and took video and pictures. There was another mom with her teen boys there as well. After some time here comes the skater who asked us if we live there. We said no and he said we are in a restricted area. I told him there are no signs on the very obvious open path that we took and I would appreciate him changing his tone with us as it was very accusatory and unfriendly. Well as usual with poor customer service training, when you point out poor attitude, many get defensive. This was the case with the skater. He said I asked you a question that's all. Well, there are a multitude of ways to ask that same question. And his way wasn't the nicest. I said ok, I could be judging you wrong, I'm just letting you know that we did nothing wrong and I don't appreciate your attitude. I am a patron of this new facility and you are being rude. He continued with he passive-aggressive behavior and told us (not asked) to show him our way in and prove that there are no signs. He was behaving like we were criminals and we had to prove ourselves to get released. Bit of a power trip. We ended up taking him to where the sign was previously lowered (but was since restored). My wife told him that that sign was not there before. Good thing he didn't accuse her of lying. He then put blame on someone else that they didn't put the sign back. Again no apology. - After pondering on the way home we realized that we had seen him come from that area before he approached us. He was the only worker up there in that area. He himself put the sign back. So he knew it was taken down and he still accused us. He most likely was the one who left it down. Funny, we even have a video that we took and it in fact shows the sign being down. (we will attempt to upload) We had no idea it was a restricted area as we clearly saw other people walking around there. This guy also said that they probably live there. So, you just assume they do, but not us? Why is that? The way we look? Let's not go there. It isn't necessary, but one can't help think that way. - Also he stated that it is a controlled area as food for the restaurants grows there and we can't have it contaminated. Well it is an open area and there was wildlife wandering through there. And a nice pile of trash on the hillside to boot. We saw all of this before the accusation. To management/ownership, employees are definitely allowed to make mistakes. But an unwillingness to apologize after offending a patron (especially when the patrons are just) is not acceptable. Based on the things he said, I'm pretty sure he is high up if not the one actually in charge of the gardens. So he should clearly know how to handle patrons better. I train my employees on customer service. The way my wife and I were treated tonight was appalling, as for the reason...
Read moreI love the idea of this place in theory. However, it’s overpriced, extremely unorganized, inefficient, and both the food and service is terrible.
We had the pogo pass for mini golf, but we also wanted to try another attraction or two. After waiting in the main line, we were given mini golf wristbands, but told to go to another desk in the arcade (with no direction) to get scanned in for golf. Okay, done. We were then told to go to yet a THIRD desk to get our putter and ball. Why am I being sent to three separate desks to wait in more lines in order to golf?! The line to actually start was SO backed up with people starting up to an hour later than their booked t-time. We ended up skipping the first few and went to the back half of the course to avoid the lines at each hole. The holes themselves were very subpar. Too many little bumps and hills for children to complete with the 5 stroke limit. Absolutely would never ever golf here again!
The BBQ place was okay—the meat, though fatty, had great flavor and the corn hash was amazing, but the salad was otherwise mediocre and not worth the money. The pizza place was nothing more than glorified cafeteria pizza. We were given a buzzer and told it would be about 15 minutes. After 25 minutes, I went back up and our pizza was just sitting there (we were never buzzed and the response when I asked about this was “Oh, sorry. He didn’t tell me I needed to buzz you.”) Two out of my three kids couldn’t even stomach the pizza, it was that bad. I tried it and it literally tasted exactly like cheap cafeteria pizza.
I went back to the main desk to get a beer before golfing. I couldn’t get either of the beers I was willing to drink because they hadn’t replaced the kegs. They recommended I instead go back to the pizza place for a beer. The guy ringing people up kept popping back and forth between taking orders and handing out samples of ice cream, while 3+ workers were right behind him making pizza. Very inefficient! When I asked where my beer was (after paying) he told me to go around the corner and ask for one there. I went over to the little bar spot and had to wait for someone to come over. A few minutes later, someone came and I’d told her I’d ordered a beer. She clearly had no idea, but was happy to hand one over. Anyone could have come up that counter and said they’d bought a beer. No receipt, ID, or anything needed!
The ropes course was by far the highlight and my kids absolutely loved it. The only problem is yet again, it’s very infficiently ran. There were maybe 12-15 people in front of my kids and it still took them 40 minutes to get through the line. It wasn’t too busy, they weren’t waiting for anything. It’s just a very slow, poorly run process. Part of the course was down, but it didn’t seem to bother my kids. They really enjoyed the course!
We really wanted to race also, but with all the other hiccups and having already spent nearly 4 hours there trying to eat, play 1/3 of the golf course, and about 45 minutes on the ropes course, I couldn’t being myself to do it. Hopefully they’re able to get a grasp on this place so that they’re able to stay...
Read moreIs this a gorgeous place that fits the demographic of the area? Yes! Does that relay in the pricing though? Also yes. This was a super fun weekend activity for me and some friends. Being summertime, a few of us did a few rounds each of the go karts, played a few games, did an escape room, and ate at Caldwell’s. As for the price breakdown:
Go Karts: $22 a round for go karts. Roughly 5 minutes actual racing. x 4 individual people= $88 per full round and we did 3 seperate rounds= $264 to kill about 30-45 minutes including pre-race stuff. No discount pricing for multiple rounds.
Games: These are on a chargeable card like most places. We added $50 a played for about 25-30 mins constantly. Good variety of games but the price per game is a little silly.
Escape room: I would not ever pay for this again. Escape rooms are fun, but the concept of being charged per person instead of being charged to rent out the room is silly. $34 a PERSON was insane for a escape room that was done in 20 mins. This is the shortest escape room that I have ever done and when asking for hints, the game master would take a few minutes to respond so we were killing time. We booked the shipwreck room at 2 PM and was told that it wouldn’t be available until 3 PM and they gave us a buzzer. At 3:15 PM, we went up to the table asking when our escape room would be ready, to which they then let us know that it was double booked on their computer and that’s why our buzzer hadn’t gone off. Personally I believe this should’ve been caught by their team way earlier— I’m unsure how you double book and not realize it until someone brings it up? We were sitting in the same spot waiting for an hour. After an hour and 30 minutes, we were offered to go to a different room with no other remediation. We did have to suffice for a different room upstairs which was unfortunate because we had a stroller and the reason we had book shipwrecked (1st floor) was to not have to carry that up with us. The escape room is definitely a money grab— Wouldn’t recommend at all, go to a place dedicated to them.
Caldwell’s: This place was really good but meat is definitely expected to be expensive as the process is strenuous. I got a smoked sausage ($8) and a pint of their mac & cheese ($7-$8 I believe?)— no complaints at all on the food. The best deal is probably to get the family platter that feeds four for around $60. They give peppers, pickles, and onions on the side as well if requested.
It seems like they have a lot building. We did not check out the botanical gardens, lake, giant jungle gym, axe throwing, or VR. They did have the surf attraction being test tested the weekend we had gone, and seemed like they have a few spots under renovation.
Did we have fun? Yes (If you don’t think about the nickel and diming). Was it worth it in...
