DO NOT STOP HERE UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO PICK UP BROCHURES.
For a visitor center, I can safely say this was the least welcoming experience I've ever had. The woman who was there was less than helpful. I asked some questions regarding the Badlands and dispersed camping for my RV. She told me that the Badlands was 50 miles east and there wasn't such a thing as dispersed camping. (I called the NPS after leaving and fun facts, there is dispersed camping in the Badlands).
I was informed by this rude woman that they were a privately-owned, non-profit and they didn't have up-to-date info. She further went on to talk about how people traveling to South Dakota were making their COVID numbers rise and that they shouldn't have opened the state up. Then, she had the audacity to say to me that she was appalled at how many people were traveling right now.
I live FULL TIME in an RV and I don't have a permanent home. I don't have an option to shelter in place when the private campgrounds close. When I told her what I needed to purchase. She exhaled and said, "Fine." Then kept criticizimg the fact that I, a woman, needed an ATV permit.
Sorry SD but you should really work on your manners. Oh, and they also charge an extra $6 fee to have them help...

The Balck Hills has so much to see, and this visitor center does a great job disseminating that information. They even have a little gift shop. The displays are attractive and some are interactive. This is also a good stop to stretch your legs, however they dont have anything or anywhere great for toddlers or crawling babies to...
