My rating for this vet is only two because of the missing elements in their lack of support to pet parents. One of my current pups is in the easiest pep to get to eat, or get his teeth clean stuff like that, and instead of embracing my dog and myself for where we are and trying to make suggestions, you just come out feeling like you’re a bad pet parrot because you’re not doing this you’re not doing that you’re not doing this you’re not doing that and they tell you you know I spend a fortune with them they get all their shots. He gets extraordinary, homemade food and they can embrace that that’s your way of parenting your dog And find ways to support along your thinking it’s either you think the way they think treat your dog the way they treat their dogs. The missing element is the emotional element, the support, the acknowledgment that you’re the Pet parent and you’re doing probably the best you can and what can they recommend within that realm not everybody is going to treat their pet the same not everybody’s gonna be able to afford to treat their pet, the same or afford the same kind of food or be able to afford every optional procedure or test or panel Instead of meeting the Pet parent where they are at and what they can provide, and what they can and will do. Cason point earlier this year one of my other dogs who was 13+ went in for a senior wellness exam and one of the tests came back funky and we ran another one and it turned out he was at stage four kidney disease, Dr. Ray call And discuss this with me, personally showing me compassion, letting me know what my choices might be now that we were facing the end of his life or heroic procedures no left it up to a twittering tech tech who was nervous about the call who couldn’t even mention that he was terminal just kept repeating stage for kidney disease and if you want to run more test run more test. But no support no compassion no he might be at this stage for this long nothing and no follow up and nothing ever we went in with the other Dog didn’t even mention we are sorry for your loss of Bandit. They never asked, never offered to put him to sleep. I had to go elsewhere to have it done and elsewhere to have his ashes. It was a do it yourself death because they couldn’t have the emotional maturity to provide that service to Pet parents, or at least to this Pet parent no compassion whatsoever, and this last visit when I took my other dog in for the senior wellness exam, they can never get the sex of this dog right they were repeatedly referred to him as her the dropped, and he left out of their arms, they offered no protective support when picking him up and putting him on the table for a major back injury that they know we have treated for two years with chiropractic and acupuncture. They didn’t even hold onto them, just blink there was, tripping out of their arms, everything and the lack of professionalism in you know, knowing who your patient is before you ever enter the room, knowing who the pet parent is knowing that their other animal has just died, knowing what their economic status of what you might be able to suggest and when the time comes that you’re at the end of the life of your Pet they can’t even talk to you about it or make any recommendations or services I mean really i’m taking Training as a pet Doula and they could really use one here. I can’t mention how good I think their medical is because it might be great but it is such a harsh emotional process to go and see them that I can’t recommend them we had a previous Vet. That was just wonderful and so compassionate. Of course it is an emotionally filled business but pet parents depend to their vets to help them make difficult decisions in emotionally filled times. This Dr. and staff need someone on their support staff who can help walk Parents walk through these decisions it is definitely missing here so don’t hope for any tenderness or compassion if you are making “end of life” or difficult decisions in care of...
Read moreTook my Rotty here for an ear infection which they prescribed cleaning his ear and an ointment that should stay in for two weeks, it cost about $300. I told him it did nothing and he was still shaking his head and yelping, brought him back and they suggested doing the same thing again that sometimes ear infections take awhile (cost another $260). I waited the full two weeks again and he was still shaking his head and yelping. I called to take him back and the nurse said that it can take rounds of doing this before it goes away. I then noticed my dog had a massive pocket of fluid on his ear. Frustrated that it had not gotten any better and in fact worse, I took him back to my original vet Animal Quail Hill Hospital (located in OC but worth the drive! They are AMAZING) and come to find out he had a hematoma in his ear (burst blood vessel) from all the head shaking. My old vet drained his ear and put a steroid medicine in it, prescribed me a new different type of ear treatment in which I put drops in his ears throughout the week and gave him some anti inflammatory medication. All of this cost about half of what Redwood Animal Hospital charged me. By the end of the week my rottys ear infection was gone and his hematoma had decreased in size almost all the way healed. I did a follow up visit today and they did a second drainage, added more steroid and antibiotic, and a testing to be sure his ear infection was gone, which was complimentary to them. All in with both vet visits to Animal Quail Hill I paid $240 vs Redwood Animal Hospital both vet visits cost $560. Animal Quail Hill had him better and almost fully healed in about a week. I saw Redwood Animal multiple times and not only did nothing happen with their treatment but...
Read moreI've only made two appointments so my opinion means very little at this point but wanted to comment on how awesome and knowledgeable the staff is... I wanted to establish a vet for one of my cats who seemed to have started this wheezing habit.. turns out, he may have asthma.. we were told what to expect in regards to caring for a cat with asthma and though it sounded unaffordable down the line, the staff reassured us they'd help us take care of the little guy.. that's all I wanted.. to make sure he had someone other than me, to look out for him and that’s exactly what we got from the staff at Redwood.. they’re always eager to help and their knowledge in regards to my cats is incredible.. I’ve learned so much from them and I feel like my cats are getting even better care because they make sure to explain the diagnosis and treatment clearly.. I even brought a one day old kitten in and I’m pretty sure they could tell I was freaking out but they remained calm and pointed me in the right direction and our little Hatchetface has grown into a beautiful, healthy cat.. thank you Redwood for always knowing how to help me give my cats the best lives they can live.. i would truly be a lost cat owner...
