Food Lion — Attraction in Richmond Hill

EDIT MY POST FROM APRIL 22!! IT SEEMS MY REVIEW WAS HEARD AS THE STORE WAS A BUZZ FOR A FEW WEEKS! ITEMS WERE UP TO DATE OR NOT ON THE SHELF. I CONTINUED TO CHECK DATES WITH EVERY ITEM I BUY AT FL AND SEEMS WE ARE BACK TO OUR OLD WAYS!! I HAD TO DIG THRU TONS OF HOSTESS BOXES TO FIND ANY NOT EXPIRED FROM MAY...YES MAY 2 WAS THE OLDEST.

love my local foodlion. The customer service is wonderful. Cashiers are very friendly. My reason for the 3 stars is I continue to find and/or purchase dated products. This has happened numerous times, I have returned crackers, produce, cheese and more. Talked to management, every time yet this continues to be a problem in this store. On Monday the 22 of April I intended to purchase some precut pineapple. What I found was expired product as old as APRIL 4. REALLY?? Pulled 6 containers out myself then was so disgusted I got a manager. Her first response was do you want me to see if there's any in the back? I said no thanks dont want to purchase ANY! I reminded her of how many returns I have made to the store and of the time I was going to buy milk, it was literally being stocked by an employee yet he failed to notice most of the milk had met its date! And the time I purchased fishy crackers that were months expired only to find every one on the shelf was expired. Well today in a hurry (because I ALWAYS CHECK THE DATES NOW) I purchased, among other items 2 packets of chicken gravy mix. 1 with an exp date of june 14, 20 AND THE OTHER EXP FEB 5, 19. Geeze people!! Thats over 2 months. Get your act...

I have always liked going to this food lion. The meats usually have a really good price on them but the last 2 years I've noticed huge changes.

The first change was in the frozen section and box and bag foods make sure you check the dates bc I bought around 75 bucks worth of the year 2018 food products when it's 2021 now. I'm not saying that it's all bad just bc expire dates but when it comes to the mini potatoes you can buy in a box it had a 2019 expire date and you could see the mold on top of the potatoes. There were 6boxes I did take all 6 boxes to a clerk that worked there so hopefully she didn't put them back on the shelf.

Due to covid I understand food has went up but I feel like even before covid hit us the food prices jumped up high. I think they charge too much money for lettuce and fresh seasonings. It's the meats that really get me though 1 week meats are great looking cut and price then the next week the meats are brown and marked up higher. There has been alot of up and down on prices since the last 2 years.

Other than that I would have given this place 5 stars about 3 and a half years ago. Today in 2021 it's 3 stars from me. An I shop there 2 to 4...

This Food Lion grocery store has fully stocked shelves, friendly and helpful employees, a clean store, and most importantly they have employees that enjoyed working. In particular, one of the clerks was busy stocking items, and noticed that I was looking for an item that was behind his pallet. Without hesitation, he asked me what I was looking for and moved his pallet and happily placed the item in my cart. An example of customer service at its best! This store also had an "express" checkout line that actually functioned as described. The lines were a little longer than anticipated (due to a fast approaching storm). It was obvious that the management staff provided their employees with the training needed to handle an unexpected influx of customers. It has been a long time that I actually enjoyed grocery shopping. Thanks to the management staff and employees who clearly understand the importance of exceeding...
