This place feels like it was transported straight from Brooklyn. The ambience is very inviting and warm... Not at all bar-like, but more like a tapas-style restaurant. Cozy, muted lighting and a get staff that is friendly but not clingy only add to the culinary tour de force that I experienced at Fog. We started with the popcorn chicken, which is made from free-range chicken. The chicken itself isn't overly flavorful, but the dipping sauce that accompanied it elevates it quite well. Next, we split the duck nachos and the pork belly tacos. The duck nachos are fantastic... A wonderful blend of sweet and rich flavors atop homemade chips with a latent smoky heat from the peppers. The pork belly tacos are even better. The crisp, salt pork belly is complemented with a blend of pickled veggies with a house hoisin sauce. The flavor palette is similar to a bahn mi, but made better by the complex flavors of the pork belly. Finally, we split the cardamom creme brulé and the Meyer lemon souffle. The cardamom is a fantastic and interesting complement to the traditional sweet creaminess of the creme brulé custard. The only faux pas here was the addition of raspberries as a garnish, which better added to nor complimented the palette of the dish. The Meyer lemon souffle was also great... Warm and sweet with a delicious berry compote topping. The meal was excellently complemented by one of the best beers I've ever had... The Maine beer company lunch IPA. All in all, this was one of the most wonderful meals I've had in a long time. Do yourself a favor and check out this...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. The menu can be slow to change, which can be good or bad, but the food is very good. There are a couple considerations, though. Although Faroe Island salmon sounds hardcore, for example, it's farm-raised which means flavorless and flabby. Another example: the locally sourced mushrooms in the Pad Thai have no presence at all. Other items also sound better than they are. The beer is served penuriously. The 10 ounce pour looks to be five or six ounces and the higher gravity beers are served in four ounce cordial glasses, although they're described as soon ounces. In spite of these significant drawbacks, it's a great restaurant. I think you could exemplify it this way: the Pad Thai doesn't resemble either authentic styles, but it is still awesome. Please overlook the shortcomings and you will have a wonderful meal. Highly recommend the...
Read moreFive stars without hesitation. I feel bad for the people that do not feel this way. We picked it because we wanted somewhere casual and fun and this place delivered in every respect. The food was fantastic, fun, locally sourced and delicious. Excellent and innovative without being pretentious. The beer selection was also very good. There was live music which normally is a negative for me but the volume was not too loud and it was really tastefully done and fit right in. I ordered a special of the day which was salmon with a fennel salad and enjoyed it immensely. It was interesting and I enjoyed it even though it was not perfectly balanced. My friend got the fishcakes and loved them. I would come here any time I was...
