Moe's may be tiny but it's become one of my favorite places to grocery shop on St. Thomas. It's fully operational after the hurricanes and as I've said in previous reviews customer service is hard to come by on this island. Every customer that walks into this joint receive a "Welcome to Moe's" greeting in unison by the cashiers. The cashiers and employees will also happily talk to you during transactions or give you help unlike other places.
They are still running the same yummy salad bar with all of their fresh goodies as well as their cold to go items.
The wine selection here is to die for. Their entire 2nd floor is dedicated to wines & liquor and for sure you'll find what you are looking for. To get up there you'll have to use a scary glass capsule like lift. It's slow and shaky, I think they should give wine samples on the first floor or liquor shots before you enter it!
Over all the prices are higher across the board but they do have the freshest produce, best variety of grocery products, especially an awesome deli and Asian food section as well as good customer service. The same owners that operate Plaza Extra in Tutu operate Moe's so I think this is their higher end grocery store. It makes sense, they seem to cater to the Yacht crowd that comes in via Red Hook.
The only drawback is that the parking situation can get tight. But since there are no tourists around it's not a problem right now. Check out Moe's if you're on the east end of St. Thomas for your...
Read moreI’m new to the island and was looking to find a good butcher to order some out-of-the-ordinary cuts of beef. While growing up, one of my favorite errands that I went on with my dad (a very good cook) was to Jim’s Meats, our neighborhood butcher market. Jim always greeted us as friends when we came in the door and treated each customer like they were the only ones in the busy shop. It was always a fun social interaction and instilled great childhood memories. So I figured the best way to find good beef on the island was to locate an actual butcher. Enter Rawl Charles at Moe’s Redhook market, who is not only their butcher, but also the store manager.
As soon as I met Rawl I could tell by his friendly, customer-oriented demeanor that I’d found a treasure. When I place orders with him over the phone it’s always ready exactly when he says it will be and he’s often there to say "hi" and hang out for a short neighborly chat. He’s even introduced me to some new cuts of beef—a sign of a well-educated butcher. He makes it a true pleasure to frequent Moe’s. To anyone looking for a butcher who knows his craft, I highly recommend you go into Moe’s Redhook and ask for Rawl.
An added bonus here is that you can request to have your meat wrapped in real butcher paper (compostable) rather than the plastic trays and wrap that pile up—poisoning the environment—at the...
Read moreTHE BEST market on St Thomas - like our own mini Whole Foods but without the markup or the uppity attitudes! Every day walking into Moe's we are greeted with a friendly "Hello, good afternoon!", not rude stares or comments like some other nearby "food centers". The quality of fresh food and produce we've found here has been unmatched on the island; if you've local or have visited before you know what a struggle that can be. Their selection of specialty items is extensive as well: meats, Italian cheeses and salamis, pastas, olive oils, spices, and wine. Oh, the wine. Visiting their upstairs Wine Room is a must, even if just to take advantage of the numerous free tastings they host. On a few occasions already we've requested a certain wine that was out of stock, and several days later we were happy to see it again. Granted, Moe's is not the least expensive market on STT (although sometimes they have amazing deals that beat even Plaza Extra!) it is well worth the extra few pennies for the outstanding service and selection you'll find. Thanks again everyone at Moe's, we can't tell you enough how much we love the place!
