This was an extremely disappointing experience for three reasons.
My hair was butchered and itās going to take months ā maybe even a yearāto get to the length and cut that I originally requested. I spoke with the stylist and showed photos both of what I wanted and didnāt want. It seemed like she understood, but I guess not. When she made the first cut, I said āthatās a lot shorter than what we talked about.ā And she said āitās the first layerā āthis was the opposite of satisfying my concern but too late to do anything about it⦠She then cut deep and short layers into my hairānot what weād talked about nor like the photos I showed.
There was a lot of length to work with. My hair was a couple of inches past my collarbone and now itās near my chin at the longest point.
After a week and a half of trying to work with it, I decided that ultimately my requests for the style were not received by the stylist. She didnāt even come close to what I was asking forāthe length being the simplest and the most consequential.
So I called into the Lunatic Fringe to see what we could do to fix the situation. I felt sick to my stomach about it.
The receptionist said that there wasnāt anyone I could talk to and that Iād have to send an email. This was really disappointingāhow are they going to review my hair through email? Also, this is an emotional situation thatās inappropriate and unprofessional to review over email. Besides, theyāre a local business. Itās not like theyāre a corporation with hundreds of customer concerns to handle.
So I sent an email and a follow up and still have not heard back. They have no interest in even talking about the situation. Iāve never had an experience like this before.
I even stopped into the salon so a manager or stylist could look at my hair and talk with me. The receptionist refused to find a manager and gave side-eye glances to someone nearby. I was shocked that this was an acceptable standard for customer service. My tone was level and understandingāI was not an irate customer. There was no reason to send me away.
I wanted to see the best stylists in SLC and was willing to pay for it. This was the opposite of the best. This was a butchering and I was out hundreds of dollars when it was all said and done as well as inches of hair.
Usually Iām the type to just cut my losses and make the best out of the situation, but I hate to think of anyone else enduring this kind of situation. Besides, this is the first bad review ive written for any service, company, product, anything.
The most disappointing thing is that now I have to find a stylist that can fix this incredibly short style. The stylist at Lunatic Fringe had so much length to work with and she just butchered it. This has been such a negative experience of wasted time, money, and feeling really bad about the way I look. I would not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been to Lunatic a handful of times. Each stylist has always been friendly. Iāve seen Stephanie R. and she was absolutely sweet and careful with color. My ombre was truly beautiful! Iāve been with Paulina to do a toner removal and deep treatment. She was also a treat to be around and gave me a wonderful blow dry. She styled my hair wonderfully and her scalp massage was awesome. I could have had her just go in and charge me to go fully dark, but she told me to carefully consider how I wanted my hair to be exactly. Iām grateful for her consideration.
I recently went to Kate Drinkwater and she was freaking fabulous. Her assistant was also great and infact gave the best scalp massage! Back to Kate: Kate listened to all of concerns and together we navigated to the best path to color correction: wiping out gray/green toner and brass. Kate understands how to confidently take on a challenge without jeopardizing the hair. Kate explained scientifically what happened with my hair and what we needed to do, each step of the way. She never pushed product on me, but did educate me on how to leverage a deep conditioner that I did mot have into my routine so that my hair can be healthy enough to add color to my hair without continuously dumping money into something that wouldnāt be a guarantee with how damaged my hair was. Her blow dry was EXACTLY how I wanted without me even saying anything. We both enjoy a classy blow out with a round brush. I feel like of all the hair experts Iāve met, she can speak so intelligently and clearly about how hair color works. I donāt think I can go to anyone else but her now, and even if I couldnāt, I would at least have a wonderful selection of people to choose from.
Now letās talk about the staff. Taylor is the most pleasant receptionist Iāve ever talked to. Iāve been to places all over in different states, bar none, I simply just even want to call to talk to her if I could!
Finally, here are my thoughts on the environment: impeccable cleanliness goes on here. Even before Covid-19, Lunatic has been so polished and clean. Parking can be a challenge, so plan to arrive a little early. They have an assortment of snacks, coffee, tea, and soft drinks. Lunatic also has a shampoo/wash room that plays soft spa music. Iāve fallen asleep every time Iāve been in there!
They use high end products and that should help a bit to justify the price if you arenāt hyped on the service costs. You honestly will get what you pay for. Luxury is what this place serves. If you have had trust issues with other salons in the past, I can assure you that if you went to Kate or anyone at Lunatic, you will be at ease. I know I am grateful for them and their willingness to deliver exceptional customer service and extremely talented...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOK so I'm changing my review I had originally given one star than 3 stars but now I've moved it to 5 stars, I went into the salon to get my previously bleached balyage /ombre hair tinted a pink rose gold, The stylist said my hair wasn't bright light blonde enough to make it the pink that I wanted somehow there was lack of communication between us and my hair turned out a black ugly maroon dark purple I was super horrified and very sad but somehow she thought I wanted that color I guess we somehow agreed on a darker version of what I wanted somehow it turned purple??? Idk I was super mad came home and wrote a mean review, So I called in to the store and told them how unhappy I was with my hair, They set up an appointment for a color correction for me, I talked with Emily and told her what happened and I showed her pictures of my Before & After and showed her pictures of what I wanted to achieve. Finally I came in for my color correction with Britney, Britney was able to pull out all the dark color and tone a pink color over the light part on the bottom, My hair turned out exactly what I wanted, And it even has the fade from my darker pink to medium pink to a lighter peachy pink color at the bottom which was exactly what I had wanted and envisioned in the 1st place. They were super nice and we talked about each step of the process to make sure it was what I wanted. In the end my hair turn out to be exactly what I wanted and they took care of me and were supe nice. The only reason it turned out bad to begin with was because of a lack of communication so the next time you go to the salon make sure to be very descriptive of what you want. I've always loved this salon I used to go to lunatic fringe in Saint George and the stylists at lunatic fringe are always on point and have a lot of training and seem very professional and knowledgeable about their work. The 1st stylist didn't do a bad job it just wasn't what I had wanted. She was super nice I felt really bad to tell her I didn't like it. So in the end I love this salon and will definitely be back. So I just wanna say thank you to Emily and Britney who help fix my hair and thank you to the 1st stylist who I can't remember her name, She put a lot of time and effort into her work, And she was super nice, even when I had told her I didn't like it. Everyone here is super nice and friendly...
