Salt Lake City | Year-End Foodie Recap: Places to Avoid 👉🏻 Don't Go Edition

This was the BEST brunch choice we could have made. My husband, myself, and my inlaws are all from out of state, and so we found the restaurant online and saw a few mixed reviews. We make a reservation, show up early, and evn though it was busy, got a patio seated table 15 minutes early! The reuben was DIVINE, the salad incredible, and there was an amazing selection of coffees and teas. One thing i wish they did was have icewater, instead of ice upon request, but thats not a big deal! Also, for the breakfast, i wish there was more jam per container, but we were able to request a second container, and it went perfectly with the yogurt and toast. The atmosphere was AMAZING. You would never know you are in the heart of SLC. The outdoor seating has so many fresh flowers, a little water feature, and a beautiful canopy overhead so the patio can be used to its full potential. The open gate to the street, multiple entrances to the patio made it feel so inviting and inclusive, and the healthy (but delicious) food choices almost made you feel like you were eating the freshest food available. There also seemed to be a great essential oil/herbal scent in the air which just added to the overall vibe! We fed 4 adults (including a tea, soda, and granola "upgrade') for $70! (not including tip!) That felt like an amazing deal for the location and again, ambiance. Our waters never even reached half before they were automatically refilled, and our waiter checked in with us very frequently and offered his personal reccomendations (the reuben and the Mediterranean salad) and that was had by 3/4 of us. It was a worthy reccomendation. I highly, highly encourage you to go here! Making a reservation is simple and easy, and the menu is available online!

I went to Oasis Café years ago on a date, but I haven’t been back since & I’ve been wanting to check it out for both breakfast & dinner. I was able to go check it out for breakfast with a friend this week. She made us reservations which we ended up not needing but I was glad she made them because you just never know. She ordered the Oasis omelet. She really liked it & the breakfast potatoes looked so good! We actually had another table comment on how great they looked as well. I ordered a vanilla latte & breakfast burrito. I loved the vanilla latte, it wasn’t too sweet at all. The breakfast burrito was huge! I couldn’t finish this. It was full of rice, beans, mushrooms, & peppers. I loved the sour cream & guac on the side. The sauce on top had really good flavor as well, but not spicy. I always get a little worried with sauce that covers the entire meal because if it’s too spicy for me I won’t be able to eat it. Service was great. It’s the cutest little place & I loved that they had free parking. The parking lot was pretty small though, so don’t be surprised if you have to park on the street. It was lightly snowing when I went as well which set such a great ambiance for brunch. Would definitely go back & I’m looking forward to trying dinner here!

I came by this place in May and have been holding back on reviewing but this experience has left such a poor impression that has stuck on me since as I wanted to show my international colleague a local place I had been excited to have lunch at especially with the stellar reviews and ambience but overall the experience was such a letdown and the only way I can put it is that if your complexion is darker than oats, it’s going to be bad. After being sat, we didn’t get our order taken until after 40 and were sat away from the crowds and it honestly felt like we were being tucked away and hidden (My colleague and I are both brown women). The waitress at that time looked annoyed by our presence and I understand people have bad days, I work in hospitality so I understand but what miffed me most was that after getting our order taken it took another 30 minutes to get 3 plates of grilled cheese and tomato soup and even then, a man who came after we did got his order taken and served way before we did and he had a much more elaborate grilled fish dish. I honestly felt so baffled and hurt by the experience because I wanted to show my colleague a lovely time but it honestly felt like my afternoon was wasted for simply existing as a...
