I’ve always wanted to try this place since it first opened. However, the vegetarian options are limited. When I asked about the dim sum, I was wondering if it was made fresh and how it compares to Dim Sum House (which sadly closed). The cashier said the ingredients come from California and claimed it was better than Dim Sum House. I also asked about vegetarian options that are spicy. She said she would substitute the Dan Dan noodles with tofu. The cashier changed between when I asked these questions and when I ordered. I ordered the Dan Dan noodles with tofu and my friend ordered the dim sum. The noodles were perfect in spice level and had the peppers that numb your mouth. While it was very nice the restaurant was willing to substitute the meat for tofu, the noodles were very sour and I couldn’t stomach them. I had to re-order and spent another $15 for a different meal. My friend ordered the dim sum and said he wanted the first five items off the menu. When he was about to rattle off the items, the new cashier said he knew and didn’t need the items. My friend was disappointed when he did not get the items he wanted. While waiting for my second meal, I tried his sesame seed balls. The sesame seed ball in the dim sum was overcooked. We were thoroughly disappointed with the food.
Now I’m trying to give the benefit of the doubt. It’s obvious this is a small family owned restaurant. I could tell they are trying to cut down costs for hiring more employees by using all to go boxes and throw-away utensils. However, the tables had oil stains showing they were not wiped down between customers. The atmosphere, was was decent, definitely had an Asian vibe and a cute hangout spot for those who are only there for boba.
Sadly, I won’t be coming back to...
Read moreFoodie and Sweetie DMarket is located in the Avenues in Salt Lake. It's a quaint little shop with only street parking (I believe). When I came in there were barely any tables available and 2 tables available outside of the shop. My group sat at one of the inside tables and it was very dirty. We cleaned it off ourselves.
I came with my aunt and my brother. We ordered 3 drinks and 2-3 dishes. I believe we ordered buns (baos), soup dumplings, and popcorn chicken? The food was delicious! I think this was the best part of the place. The drinks were okay.
I'm not sure if our experience was an outlier to the usual experience; maybe we came when the shop had first opened and they were not able to be situated yet. However, the place was very dirty. The tables were dirty. The floors were dirty. Even the display, with the stuffed animal and figures, was dirty. There also was not much seating and the downstairs was closed off by some random chairs or boxes. I hope to come back and see that my experience was...
