My first stop after arriving in SLC was Wasatch Touring Company. Great neighborhood bike and back country ski shop with seasonal rentals of all kinds of outdoor gear. I was fortunate to rent a 2020 Specialized Robaix fitted to me by the incredibly knowledgeable and highly skilled bike experts. While I was there they helped me pick out a MIPS helmet and a “ be seen” light for my city riding in Boston. Something you wont get online are the suggestions and knowledge of biking, skiing and outdoor products. This shop is easy to locate in the fairly small SLC area. Grab an Uber! I couldn’t say enough about the friendly helpful staff. The bike had a perfect seat for me, I usually travel with my own but took a chance, they also had pedals for my SPD clip shoes and they fine tuned the bike so well it silently and speedily flew up emmigration canyon a great ride for intermediate bikers, disc brakes stopped on a dime on the 30 mph downhill! Or ask the staff where to ride. SLC has MANY bike trails for a short or a long easy 40 mile ride. Then try some city riding on the bike lanes and enjoy the SLC restaurant scene, farmers market, great local coffee shops. I stayed on the up and coming west side which is very accessible to all the downtown has to offer. Stop by The Red Iguana for 5 star gourmet Mexican its worth the wait. And don’t miss out on Park City shopping, bike...
Read moreI have had mixed experiences at Wasatch Touring over the past 30 years. Mostly on the not so stellar. Today was an example as to why I can not and will not recommend them to anyone. During their recent sale I bought a $300 item but before purchasing it specifically asked a sales person about returning it as I was buying it for my spouse and was not absolutely sure that it was going to work for them. Unfortunately, it did not. Two days latter I went back to the store to return it, expecting a full refund.
The sales person working that day said it was a sale item and only eligible for store credit. I firmly said I would not except that, only a full return and explained that I specifically asked about returns before the purchase and was not told it would be credit only. Had I been told I would only get store credit I would have brought my spouse to the store along with comparisons before purchasing.
The sales person said it was on the receipt (which one gets only after the purchase) and basically refused until I finally said that I would dispute the charge. After finally agreeing to do a refund, the clerk started to berate me and basically asked me not to come back. I definitely will not. And recommend others do the same,...
Read moreKnowledge is what first took me to this place, and on top of that, fantastic customer service has kept me.
I first found Wasatch Touring when I was trying to remount a backcountry ski set up back in 2013 or so in college when I was a broke lad trying to pinch pennies.
In short, what I was trying to do was incredibly dangerous and impossible and their tech, I believe a guy by the name of Lou, with years of experience thankfully, caught this silly decision and politely informed me they "could" do it, but highly advised not to, and why.
Likely, I owe them my life, or at least a prevented injury!
On top of that, customer service.
They are friendly, nonpretentious (sometimes happens at a shop, unfortunately!), and most importantly to me, they point you in the right direction gear-wise instead of just trying to sell you the highest gear.
They've been around for a while and it's no accident!
Please, support them so that they're many more years!
That street corner would look mighty strange without their...
