This park holds a fond & familiar place in my heart. My Mom used to take us here as a family since I could remember!
We rode the sky rides.. over Sunken Gardens, rode the train, paddled in the paddle boats & rode the horses in the stables which are no longer there.
The San Antonio Independent School District also brought us here to the San Antonio Zoo and I remember getting those little wax or plastic zoo animals. The hippos were my favorite and the pink flamingos that used to be up front of the zoo.. after the zoo visit was over we would then have lunch provided by Church's Chicken (yummy)
This area also has the wonderful Whitte Museum & the old Butterkrust bakery (the smell of fresh baked bread & the warm buttered bread, pencil, ruler, & book covers... did I mention the buttered bread - yummy!
Ao Brackenridge Park holds tons of memories - not mention the awesome wooded BBQ areas with views of the water. Well kept baseball fields & places to feel that you escaped the city without leaving the city.
The pictures are of Sunken Gardens. I hadn't been in decades...butwhen I went back it was just as beautiful... I wonder if any of the koi or goldfish are from when I was little?
It would be nice to know if there is a survivor fish that we could search or look for... maybe give it a cool name & have the visitors post pics to the website of it & them... just an idea... not sure that anyone actually reads the posts anyway...but worth a shot to suggest it!

Read moreHave you ever picked up ALL of the trash from a piñata or cascarones ??? ... that’s because you can’t. I read multiple reviews about how this park is great for a party and to bbq. This must be for the party thrower that does not want to pick up afterwards, because the grounds are peppered with litter. There is a lot to do at this big park, the zoo the sunken gardens the museum ... but the signage for where you want to park to do whichever activity you have chosen are minimal at best. There are very few doggy bag stations so there is poop on the trails, watch your step! Having that said after getting to the park 45 minutes later I discovered the appeal, which brought me up from negative stars. Sorry, the Vultures on the bbq pits was disgusting, but again if you’re not cleaning up after yourself you are the problem this facility has, not the park itself. There is a short nature trail that has a nice shaded walk and the location is in a great area with lots of dog friendly restaurants. Overall it was an enjoyable experience, I just wish the patrons using the facility for parties had more respect for shared public spaces. There are some beautiful spots, sadly there are a lot of visitors who’s momma never taught them...
