Fantastic and historic venue! A real gem that the City of San Antonio should be proud of!
While the setting and overall ambiance is beautiful, there is so much left to be desired. The venue is dated and is in desperate need of a makeover! (MAJOR UNDERSTATEMENT, I might add). Very limited restroom accommodations for large gatherings, especially for the women's facilities! There are often port-o-potties brought in for temporary use but those can get pretty down right gross for anyone to use, much less female guests. As a guy, I can tolerate it but geez, really could use better facilities all the way around. Event lighting / audio systems need an upgrade to enhance live performances, etc and while I have my wish list open, I think the addition of shade protection and widened walkways would be a great addition. Parking and traffic management definitely needs to be addressed! Perhaps limiting direction of traffic flow into and out of venue rather than the cross-flow that currently exists and leads to an overall traffic nightmare!
I believe funds were supposed to be allocated for upgrades to this venue by the city but either they were redirected elsewhere or cancelled altogether. Hopefully that changes soon!
I would love to give a 5 star rating but the aforementioned issues keep me from doing so. Even though the overall rating is mediocre, due to the overall great setting/location (5 stars), I will absolutely continue to show my support and visit this wonderful venue in the future! I...
Read moreI used to love this venue! But....the last show we saw a show the main bathrooms were closed and only port a pots were available, and not enough of them! It felt like there was a police officer for every 10 people or so, perhaps they have had problems in the past, AND you used to be able to go sit at the back wall. No more. Perhaps it was the particular show we saw, but it just didn't feel like the same place from my past. Stage is small but it's almost impossible not to have a good view of it from anywhere. Large space to dance at up front, and lots of seating towards the back of you don't feel...
Read moreFantastic outdoor venue. Smallish, with zero parking. Nice architecture. It's the Hollywood Bowl of SA that does not get the use it should, due to parking. Add a streetcar extension fr Broadway, and this would be SA's premier small venue concert space. It seems the only people in SA that value this venue are 99.5 KISS promotion management team and 99.5 listeners. Such a shame. SA symphony could run a Fall series here and pack the house. Perfect...
