This past Friday I and some of my family visited the Briscoe Museum with our elderly parents. Our father had grown up in the 1950s just a few blocks south of this Museum and was excited to visit San Antonio and this museum. My younger brother and I both brought our young daughters because we were spending the week doing everything together with our parents. We arrived right when the Musuem opened and were kindly greeted by the lady at the front desk who then sold us the tickets and then gave the museum directions. We then started exploring the 3rd floor artifacts. About a half hour in, when we were all alone in a gallery on the southside, a male staff member came into the room and loudly said "please control your child" while pointing at my brothers 23 month old daughter who had just laid down on the floor without any of us yet noticing. She wasn't making any noise or disturbing anything. She had literally just laid down. My brother thought he had missed something and quickly picked her up, which caused her to start crying. The gentleman then stated that she was a trip hazard to others in the Museum. This might have been the case if there was anyone else around but, there were not. We went and looked and there were 2 other ladies on the 3rd floor in different rooms at the time and no one in the section we were located in. We all talked amongst ourselves after this but none of us could understand why we were approached in this manner. If the Museum doesn't want one year olds to do innocent one year old things, then don't allow children into the Museum. We all just wanted to leave the museum at that point and did shortly after. Everything else we did in San Antonio with our parents was wonderful, just not this place. There are proper ways to approach people with concerns but, ...
Read moreWe just moved in to Texas last year, so technically I can still consider that we are pretty new to the culture and environment. We are slowly adopting and we like what Texas is offering.
Seeing what Texas culture and history through Briscoe's arts was really educating - you do not have to research as they will provide and picturesque how was it like and how Texas become Texas now.
The 3 story museum was well designed from exterior to interior and they maximize every space to tell stories. From the entrance you will be greeted and assist to maximize your visit.
The place has stairs and an elevator, clean restroom, water fountain, long chair in every floor to take a rest and appreciate the beautiful arts. They also have a store where you can buy varieties of souvenirs like ref magnet, cup, mug, scarf, book, figurine, jewelries, spurs and a lot more.
My favorite part here is the 3rd floor sculpture of JOHN COLEMAN, the 1876, Gall - Sitting Bull - Crazy Horse, and Z.S Liang, Victory Dance - Little Bighorn, and the 2nd floor art of Curt Walters, the Cimmerian Whispers.
We enjoyed every story that tells the rich history of Texas. I surely left happy and educated about what happened in the past (Texas).

Read moreThis place was so awesome! Me and my father are from Dallas and went to San Antonio for the weekend to enjoy some time together as he has open heart surgery coming up. We both love history in love museums, all I can tell you is this place was perfect! I could have spent all day there and what was even more cool of a surprise was that they had a surprise gallery Western pieces done by Andy Warhol! But not only that they had everything from Santa Anna's personal sword, two saddles written by Pancho Villa and Roy Rogers but also actual worn and used saddles that day back to the 16th and 17th century during Spanish colonialism. They also had many statues in many works of art on the wall throughout the whole museum, it was just totally unbelievable and I would definitely do it again as it was only $10 for an adult and $8 for my father because he was a senior citizen (65 years old and up is only $8). For a total price between both of us $18 was more than a bargain for three stories of Texas history and a surprise Gallery by Andy Warhol and another surprise artist. If you love history, love art and love a good time then you will absolutely love this Museum! Don't pass up this awesome opportunity while you were in San Antonio two taken so much history for such an awesome price, you...
