I am not reviewing the island itself. It looks gorgeous from various pictures online. However, this is a review of my experience on trying to reserve a time for a proposal. The biggest turn-off for me was the fact that the lady continued to insist on scheduling my proposal right before another reservation.
Initially, I wanted to propose on a Saturday, but I got an email back that only weekdays are available. When I requested for the Thursday of the same week, there was no response. It took a couple of days, another email, and a voicemail to finally get a response.
The phone call was basically to tell me that they do not want to reserve for that Thursday but the next day instead. Her excuse was that the rose pedals they have to pre-order might not come in on time if I want to propose on the Thursday. My requested reservation time was a day earlier than the reservation that she wants me to book. What difference does it make? Then she tried to give me all of these reasons why I should book for 3:30pm Friday when I clearly told her what time and day I preferred.
I had to tell her that I am a photographer and that I am firm on 5-6pm for golden hour to make her stop trying to convince me to propose at 3:30pm. It was obvious to me that she was trying to make things more convenient for the business. Then after a couple of hours I got an email that they passed on this overpriced opportunity.
Other issues include not answering the phone, slow responses to email inquiries unless it is about pricing. Also, speaking of pricing, the package deal I got was higher than what was advertised on the website. I advised those who is interested in proposing on marriage island is to clarify how much the package deals are because there are no refunds.
I give one star for wasting time and for coming up with terrible reasons to make their scheduling more convenient for themselves. Honestly, I am not upset that they refused me. I dodge a bullet and saved a lot of money. I was already looking at another potential spot for a proposal in SA during Valentine's week. I learned there are many nice and cheaper options than...
Read moreI cannot recommend Shaunda and her entire team at Marriage Island highly enough.
Our ceremony was planned and ready to go within 2 weeks. My husband and I were originally planning to just do a courthouse wedding due to the short timeframe, but Shaunda was FANTASTIC at getting everything ready for us so quickly.
Our wedding day was absolutely perfect for us.
We went with the package including a coordinator, guitarist, photography session, and bouquet/boutonniere. Everything was sorted and arranged for us. Shaunda kept us updated in the week leading up to the ceremony and all we did the day of was just show up.
We haven't received the photos just yet but the photographer was so kind and professional. He took us to so many spots and showed us the photos as we went along and they were STUNNING.
My husband and I aren't big planners so this experience was truly perfect. Most of the package was preset, and the few decisions we did have to make were either/or choices that made everything simple and stress-free for us.
Friends and family joined us for the ceremony and we spent the rest of the day eating and drinking along the Riverwalk.
If you are looking for a small and stress-free ceremony that will be beautiful, intimate, and picturesque this is the place to go.
Thank you again Shaunda and...
Read moreI attended a wedding taking place at Marriage Island on 4/13/25. Being from out of town and not familiar with the location and/or area, I called this business as it was the one linked in the invitation. I had no idea at the time of this call that this is but one of a number of wedding event planning businesses common to Marriage Island.
My ONLY question was about available parking. The owner's response was to ask me the date of event and name of bride. She checked her records, stated this was not her event, and told me to check with the bride, very disrespectfully. The whole point of trying to find out on my own was to avoid bothering the bride who was busy wrapping up all those final details before her big day.
Inquired again about available parking and she again stated this was not her event in a very rude manner. Is it a state secret that The Contessa Hotel has valet parking? How hard would it be to share that information? She would have spent far less time on the phone as I was dumbfounded she wouldn't answer my question regardless of client status and pressed her a couple of more times to no avail.
There are many companies offering wedding event planning services for Marriage Island. I would definitely NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Common courtesy is not something the...
