Can I give this place zero stars? I don't care how good their tacos are, their staff is obnoxious and unwelcoming. I don't see how the staff could pride themselves on customer service when it is so obviously absent. We were in San Antonio for a family trip and someone recommended this place. We attempted to get breakfast, but the line was long and I was told while in line that it would be a 45 minute wait for food once we did order, so we made a plan to return later in the day prior to 6pm as the operating hours posted on the VERY VISIBLE sign on the door were 8am to 6pm. As we were walking back to LaVillita the sky opened up and it began to POUR. We took shelter to allow the heaviest of rain to pass and then we continued to trudge through the rain and flooded streets arriving at LaVillita about five minutes before 5pm, soaked and hungry. The staff were already putting chairs on tables and looked at me and said, "we're closed." Yeah, not a good ending to a soggy trip in San Antonio. Even if I should ever return to San Antonio, I will never, ever recommend or seek out a morsel from this place. I will not spend my money where I am not welcomed. I love to eat and spend local, but this place has lost any future opportunity with me.

First I want to note the good things. The customer service was amazing. We informed them that it was our first time there and they made their recommendations which we decided on, ordering the avocado toast and chicken and waffles. Our kiddos got the pancake kids plate and they were even kind enough to sub an omelette at no additional charge, instead of scrambled eggs. We also ordered 2 coffees and 2 orange juices for the kids, and when we were brought all our food, we thought we had to still wait on the OJ but after about 10mins into our meal, I went back to the counter to ask and they told me “oh it’s the ones in the fridge,” which I didn’t know, but no biggie, they were kind about it. The food was good but was lukewarm and not hot and a bit pricey for the serving size. My avocado toast had a very small spread, in which I’m used to a thicker spread. I think this cafe has the potential to be something more because our coffee was delicious, the boys loved their kids breakfast plates and they are very friendly. All in all, we spent about $90 for a family of 4 breakfast which was the same amount we spent at a Riverwalk restaurant with margaritas for dinner.

La Villita Cafe is a quaint Mexican style cafe with a Tex/Mex cuisine, consisting of all day breakfast, wraps, sandwiches, soups and salads. When you walk in the door you will be handed a menu and you will have plenty of time to make up your mind while you wait in line. The menu isn’t that big and even the large iced tea isn’t that big. I chose to add a side of fries with my Chicken Sandwich on Ciabatta bread. And, yes, the fries were not plentiful. My actual sandwich was a decent size and my wife’s omelette was also a decent size. Still, if you’re hungry and in the area, then give this place a try. The length of the waiting line seems to indicate how popular this place is. P.S. I was plenty surprised when I was asked if I wanted a refill on my iced tea. Usually a place like this doesn’t offer free refills. Thanks!

Edited to add to my original review: The owners refunded our card and sent a very kind and sincere email apology. This speaks volumes to me on how they value their customers. Thank u! We visited this morning for breakfast. My husband had the French toast with strawberries, two eggs & two slices of bacon. I had an egg bacon corn tortilla taco. We both had coffee. I will start off with the positive. The people working at the front counter were very kind & the coffee was good. I don't like giving bad reviews & RARELY, if ever give a 1 star review but this was unacceptable. My husband's eggs were not done. I mean undercooked and uneatable. The French toast had half a strawberry & luke warm at best. I did go up & tell the male staff member working & he told the cooks in the back & he also came to the table & apologized. Which we greatly appreciate. But no offer to remake the eggs or anything. For the amount of money we paid, I believe $15ish for my husbands plate & what we got was just so disappointing. My egg bacon taco was also very sad. A tiny bit of egg..no seasoning & a very limp tiny piece of bacon. I did however notice when the owner arrived later the food coming out of the kitchen looked a lot better & properly done. I should have said something to the owner but by that time, we needed to go to get to meetings.(We are traveling for work.) So, maybe because we came right when they opened the cooks weren't prepared??? I don't know. I just know as of now I cannot recommend...

Alright let me explain...came to San Antonio for the weekend, and wanted to experience a little piece of San Antonio during my visit. I went to a Latin Club last night to dance a little, afterwards had some late night tacos (a must!).This morning I went for a nice run through Davis Park (so peaceful) and afterwards came to La Villita Cafe....(suspense music playing) this is where they were wrong, Saturday 25th, approx 11:30am I popped into the restaurant and it looks like they are busy. They are doing pretty good for themselves, if people are willing to wait, you know the food must be good and I was EXCITED TO TRY IT!! But I witnessed this barista girl being rude to two gentlemen because they were inquiring about their beverage or whatever. The response back from this barista was something like “this is an Americano not a latte” but homeboy ordered a latte, so who’s in the wrong? witnessing people not taking ownership of their mistakes and wanting to be rude to others is unacceptable. It took my appetite away. How would you be rude to other people when your entire job is based on services to others. Like, I get if they are rude to you then you might have to tell them who's the boss (politely) but girl you need to keep your attitude to yourself and God. Because if people are willing to stand in line to wait for your service and you act like you did, you better believe that I'm not spending my money nor my time there.

Do better. Be better.

Ps. it was the girl with the tattoo behind...

I could imagine this place gets crazy during the high season. It was a lovely visit in the early hours on a weekday, with helpful service the moment I entered. I appreciate someone asking if it's my first time here and telling me about what's popular. There were many good options, and staff recommendations sounded tasty, and I nearly went with pancakes. The omelette was excellent, however, loaded with my choice of ingredients. If you're going for a more authentic experience, burritos look good and are also large. Large portions and good coffee completed the experience. It was worth the short walk off the touristy track to eat here. Lunch looks like it would be great as well, plus some tasty drafts, and I'll return when I'm in town again. Nice little place that isn't not too far from the Riverwalk but it doesn't have a Riverwalk prices. All we had was breakfast tacos and they were more than filling and more than tasty. I had the brisket taco, which was good but then I really wished I would've just gotten two chorizo tacos because they were excellent! The tortillas were some of the freshest and fluffiest tortillas I've ever had in life. I didn't ask but I wished they had corn tacos because those are what I prefer. Overall my order with a large coffee was about six or seven dollars and I was definitely full for the rest of the morning. I would definitely go to this place over other places that are more touristy. They were super friendly, super fast, and...
