Ordered some clams and oysters. I've lived on 3 different coasts in the US and on an island, so I KNOW quality. I came in person once and they don't have fresh seafood sitting in the window for you to choose yourself. No one was really around to ask questions. I thought maybe they only sell frozen seafood and other products, so I left.
Months later, I realized you can order online and they package it up for you. I'm not a super huge fan of that because you can't personally see the quality of the product before purchasing. It comes boxed up in ice.
Upon receiving the box and coming straight home, we washed our clams and oysters. Upon removing the blue bands, ALL OF THEM popped open in our sink unexpectedly. We tried calling the establishment to see why this happened, but no one answers the phone. We tried again next day and left a voice message. We opened all of them all the way inspect the. Ans some of them just did not look safe to consume. There was wayy to much sediment, Grey/brown color, not plump. They were just bad. I wish the website would have stated that these oysters are already dead Upon pick up. How is anyone supposed to know that a blue band oyster is dead if they've never experienced that before? Coming from living by the ocean, I never once experience a "blue band oyster." This company needs to notate that in the item description OR AT LEAST ANSWER THE PHONE SO WE KNOW ITS SAFE FOR CONSUMPTION. We tried cooking what we thought looked okay, but everything off the grill smelled like ammonia. We did not feel safe eating anything. Money wasted.
We did recieve a phone call and the guy said, "maybe a little sand must have gotten in after processing." No, your employees did not quality check the products before packaging and charging us money.
We also weighed the clams and were shorted what we paid for. How is this company still in business. If you're going to do something, have pride and honor in what you do. Poor quality and deception will always come back around to...
Read moreDaughter wanted steak and lobster...Where can I find really fresh high quality salmon, shrimp, lobster tails and crawdad meat??? Groomers!! My wife being a San Antonio native has been talking about Groomers for years...no I did not listen. But a close friend of mine is neighbors with Rick...he bought a ton of crawdads recently and we put on a boil for a men's gathering. I was floored at the quality! If you want really excellent quality fresh seafood, Groomers is THE place to get it in San Antonio. I went on Saturday in preparation for daughter's family coming in for a visit. Needless to say we spent an hour just talking with people and my wife and daughter and grandson ran around sampling everything. The service, the atmosphere, the friendliness of literally everyone was incredible. Blake and the team took such great care of us! I bought Canadian Salmon..mind blown. Lobster tails in 4 sizes, alligator sausage, jumbo shrimp, crawdad meat, seasonings... it was like a movie. I told Rick he won me over and I will be back ...Groomer Team...such a fantastic culture of customer service, knowledge and caring. I will be back...
Read moreSince they're essentially cornering the market in San Antonio, I gave it a shot when I moved here. Too bad I know what good quality Seafood is. If you look at their imports, you can find the exact same "stuff" at the Vietnamese stores in the frozen section at half price. I don' know if this place has gone "greed before need" or what. But I just can't shop here anymore, the first two times was a decent experience since I was making Ceviche. Back then they had staff who cared. Then, they just stopped carrying higher quality product . They carry gimmicky stuff from unreputable sources it seems.
Ask if their fish is from farms. Ask where your product is coming from. It's really nothing special.
Go to HEB or the Vietnamese grocery or Japanese grocery market. Whole Foods carries what they carry at the same price. And forget Whole Foods right about now!
So Groomers is losing what edge they had. They "had" a 'quality and price' edge. Now it's an odd "bait n switch" edge with cheap products. Sorry to have to leave this review. But I'm not easily fooled.
I do feel sorry for people who think this place is...
