I cannot honestly give this hotel a Five * review. So, complaints I have are definitely not like the person who was in front of me who had already checked out of the hotel a few days ago and came back just to get a partial refund saying he would press charges because he had to walk 30 minutes to get something to drink even though there were literally drinks for sale 10 ft from where he was complaining about it. All of his complaints he could have solved by just calling the front desk. That's not what my complaints are here. This is a rebranded DoubleTree that has a new coat of paint and upgrades. First, the good. Paseo bar and the restaurant inside the hotel is legit. I have reviewed many restaurants here, both inside hotels and freestanding, and this restaurant honestly needs to have its own Google entry for reviewing because I could really see myself just coming into the restaurant if I lived around the corner to get breakfast or dinner. Prices were in line with what you would find in the area, so they did not mark up prices on the food just because it was in a hotel (a common, classic move to inflate the bottom line). Prices on beverages were average for beer and liquor EXCEPT...cmon guys, $30 per shot for "nothing special" green label Weller? The whole bottle costs $30!! We learned our lesson here. Also good; This hotel is right off of 410. Probably 2-300 ft from the highway. Our courtyard facing room was insanely quiet. I thought there would be noise issues but there were not. Cannot tell you if outside facing rooms are more noisy. Now, the parking. Parking is good, and there is quite enough of it. I was told by a security guard that we needed to park on one side of the parking lot versus the other because there was a higher chance of the car getting hit if it was on one side or the other. Doesn't exactly make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Bottom line, don't bring your diesel truck if you have other vehicles. The common areas: The courtyard is beautiful, but the pool didn't look like it had been cleaned in a month. Courtyard has lots of room for kids to run around and lots of real foliage but astroturf grass (nice touch actually, kudos to whoever thought) We didn't use the pool so it really didn't matter. The workout area has a peloton and one Precor elliptical trainer and several Precor treadmills. The Precors did not have internet access so the bells and whistles were not working. Since this is all peloton is, it obviously was connected to the internet. Plenty of towels and sanitizing wipes. The rooms: I felt like they did an average job of cleaning. They do not come to give daily service unless you tell them. Bathroom was nice. Showers were decent. If you have balance issues, I would make sure you called the front desk about getting a tub mat because they are not included by default. We had three people in our room but towels for only 2. That was one call to the front but was immediately rectified. We had the celebration package which was not in our room when we checked in. This was also rectified rather quick. Mattresses were average: Not terrible but nothing great. Rooms were coz, a little small. A little humid but AC worked great. The hotel has 3 elevators, one which is more of an outside type of elevator. It had rained the night before, and on the morning that we were going down to use the workout facility at 6:15, we got stuck in the elevator. The door shut, lots of clicking noises, no movement. No buttons worked, including the call button. Thankfully I was able to pry the doors open as we had not moved an inch. Notified front desk and by the time we came back, cones were in front of the doors and an out of service notification, so this tells me this happens a lot. The main elevators worked very well and were very quick. We got a great deal on this hotel, but others in our party paid close to $200 per night and it is definitely not worth that rate. Overall a decent stay. I rated this four stars, but is probably closer to 3.5. I rounded up :). Worth a stay if you can get rate...
Read moreI had the worst experience ever at this hotel. I came back from work ready to unwind from a long day of work only to find out that I had basically been evicted from my room. When I asked the front desk why my key was not working she proceeded to lie to me and said I only booked for 1 night. I pulled up my confirmation to show her I booked for 2 nights. She explained that there must have been a glitch in their system then. She then issued me a new working key and assured me all of my things would be in my room as I left them. I was skeptical but I had no reason to believe she would lie. I went upstairs and found all of my things were gone! I marched back down stairs and informed her again that my things were missing (including my laptop!) A quick look in the back room revealed that my belongings were stuffed in a plastic bag at reception. I have never been more humiliated. At this point I am furious and almost in tears because I have not received an explanation nor have I received an apology for what happened to me. She then proceeded to hand me my things with a simple âhere you goâ as if they hadnât just evicted me and stuffed my toothbrush in a bag with my sneakers. As if a stranger hadnât been in my room touching all of my things. I travel a lot for work so I always make sure to put the DND sign up for this reason. I donât like people in my room when Iâm not there. Not only were there people in my room but there were also strangers rummaging my things. I immediately asked to speak to her manager. When the manager arrived, she told the manager that my reservation was for 2 days (LIKE I SAID) but it looked like someone had checked me out at 5 am that morning. This was news to me! Why did she not share this information with me? Why wait for the manager? Additionally I never received any notification that I had been checked out. Like I said, I travel A LOT. Iâm a Hilton diamond member who has stayed at this hotel before so I know how this works. I ALWAYS get an email and notification in the app when I am checked out of my room. I received no notification. I feel like they had ample opportunity to catch the mistake. For example, why would the clean up staff not ask why my room still had all of my belongings in it? Shouldnât the room service staff alert reception that there might be a mistake? Why would no one call me and ask why I would leave my things behind after checking out? Why did it take me getting home from work at 6pm and informing them to realize there was a problem? I should also add that itâs not like they needed the room (since I had technically booked it for 2 nights). They didnât even clean it. My bed was still unmade just as I left it. So why take all my things out? This whole thing felt so hateful. Iâve never been treated this way by anyone. The worst was the lack of apology. I basically had to beg for one from the manager. Ruined my entire evening and trip. Needless to say, I will never be staying here again. Please retrain your staff on basic respect and...
Read moreThe hotel and rooms have a ton of character and were clean and comfortable. We had a courtyard view room which I didnât realize was actually a contiguous balcony for the entire floor. It was really fun and nice to walk around with my daughter when we got in for the evening. Courtyard is beautiful, but there were 2 large group events during our stayâŚan alumni gathering and a red hat society sip and shop kind of thing, so we didnât feel like we could go down and use the courtyard at all. It wouldâve been better on weekdays Iâm sure. I did not find ambient noise to be excessive in our room as some others have complained. It also didnât seem outdated or dilapidated. We were on the third floor. The bed was legitimately comfortable and linens and pillows really niceâŚnot too noisy or stuffy. I usually sleep horribly in hotels as the beds arenât comfortable to me, but I slept great here. Construction was a little less commercial than you typically see in a hotelâŚit had more traditional construction methods and therefore a more homey feel. This was a short trip with my daughter, but I would love to come back with our whole family. I am not sure if the room would be as comfortable for a family of 6 though as the rooms arenât very spacious, and they are lacking places to put luggage. We can normally fit in one hotel room, but Iâm afraid weâd have to book adjoining rooms which significantly changes how expensive our stay is and the value weâre getting for the money. But the price for a room to the comfort and amenities was worth the minor difference in price from your basic accommodations in the area at the time of our stay (the room was a great value compared to other options in the area, but might not be if another hotel fits our whole family in one room when this one might not).
We had 2 problems during our stayâŚfirst a trim piece on the outside of the balcony doors was hanging by a thread and we woke up to it knocking in the wind. Staff had it taken care of promptly. The other issue was with the restaurant. It seems to be understaffed and disorganized. We missed out on breakfast both days because it took so long to get acknowledged. The first day, we didnât have time to wait. The second day, by the time we spoke to anyone, we were informed that the kitchen was already turning over from breakfast to lunch even though we were there before they were supposed to stop serving breakfast. Big bummer. We ended up just grabbing yogurt and coffee from Starbucks en route. Although Iâm sure the wait staff was friendly enough, our encounters werenât that friendly because they were to hurried. Hopefully we just caught them on a bad weekend. It smelled good and other patrons looked happy, but we missed out.
I hope to come back and would definitely stay here again. Hopefully the restaurant situation is better and we will get a chance to enjoy the breakfast next time we get to...
