Where do I start? This "society" of wealthy individuals, disconnected from the realities of San Antonio, is not elected by its citizens yet has the power to dictate downtown development. As a lifelong resident, I've lost count of how many promising projects have been scrapped or suffocated by their interference. They cling to historic buildings of little significance, often in disrepair, while dismissing modern constructions that could serve real purposes. When developments are approved, they are toned down to blend in with the uninspired, bland architecture dominating downtown. They resist any plans for taller, denser buildings, routinely reducing proposals from 40 floors to a mere 10. Their influence contributes to the city’s failing infrastructure; nothing thrives here because these power-hungry groups obstruct progress at every turn.
We, the citizens of San Antonio, must unite to challenge this society's hold on our city. We need to find a way to reduce their decision-making power in downtown.
