This place is comfortable & quiet-ish. They were going through construction in some areas so was hard to gauge. The elevator is the slowest in the whole state of Texas. The bed & room were comfortable - but the bathroom was a joke. It had to be. It has a vanity & mirror outside of the tiny closet you may call a toilet/shower stall. The toilet was so close to the door, that the door literally hit against the bowl of the toilet & seat, then effort had to be made to pull the door the rest of that way through to bring it to a close & have privacy. Once closed, you have a maybe 30” squared space to get undressed in front of the shower. The shower was alright. Water pressure was low. The towels are kind of rough (but plentiful). Especially paying what I did for one night. Now, breakfast, which is included in your stay, was served until 9:00. Going down at 8:45am - they had no food left. NOTHING to eat except hard boiled eggs & ketchup. Coffee was still there but ran out as I stood in amazement. The employees were cleaning out & taking the dishes from under the lights claiming they didn’t have more & it was past time. They put away bread, bagels, fruit. What? Now. If you don’t have food left, then give me money back. I paid for breakfast. You should plan for the amount of guests you have checked in the night before. There is no excuse. Also -if you typically shut down 15 minutes before - then say so. Don’t say it’s going to be served until a certain time if you don’t serve 15 minutes prior to cut off. Communicate what cut off is. & don’t have your employees literally taking food from the serving area, with food in their hands, or carts saying you are out of food. I can see the food in your hands. Hello! What does it matter to let one more person (in this case there were about 15 people wanting breakfast) make a waffle? Take a bruised apple? Make toast? I was just wowed at the “too-bad-should-have-come-earlier” attitude the person (who I believe was the manager) on duty had that morning had. Nothing was said as she closed the door to the serving area, not meeting anyone’s eye. I wouldn’t complain, but at $300 to stay, AND paying for parking, with a bathroom door that wasn’t really closable, a light /fan combo in the toilet/shower/closet/room that was super sensitive/loud to the point that when you roll over in bed it turns on? No. You need to keep your word. Provide what you promised. I am. I’m paying you & not destroying your property. Provide me with a breakfast at the times you advertised, don’t give me excuses. If there were a valid reason I wouldn’t have said a word. If it was reasonably priced? Not a peep. However, the amount of people who showed up for food at that time should have warranted at the very least, a chance to pick up foods that were sealed, fruit, a chance to grab a coffee you could have definitely brewed, or toast. How much is toast? Just blown away a place with the name Hyatt presented themselves as such a low quality establishment feel, almost as if they were concerned about the cost. Don’t include it in your fee to stay, charge for it separately. I understand the need not to waste, but your customers are paying a pretty penny to stay with you with the expectation of a breakfast meal. Take care of them by offering to grab easy to provide items, leave the bagels, bread, etc out. It can’t be used again anyway! & your fruit. The apple I was able to grab, I’m sorry I did. It was bruised, mealy. Past its prime. Don’t serve that. It will make patrons feel as if you are shopping for the lowest cost produce to save a few bucks. If I wanted an apple from Walmart I would have stayed at a budget brand hotel, or Motel 6. With the light left on for me. And probably coffee. Free parking. Thanks, but no thanks. I’ll stay somewhere closer to the river walk who has “enough food” for each guest that has stayed with them the night before, & more than likely the same or less cost per night, or free parking, & a bathroom door that closes. Make sure you don’t set guests expectations too high....
Read moreMy only complaints with this hotel are concerning the wifi and a minor complaint of the free breakfast. I couldn't watch dunkey videos over the wifi, and the breakfast was sadly lacking nachos. In addition to the breakfast lacking nachos, the pancakes served were microwaved ones you buy in stores. Sadly, my Inidans (vegetarianos) did not have many options and were limited to an egg sandwich and donut. During my stay, I was happy to see that an ice machine was provided. I ran into a janitor at the ice machine, but he left me undisturbed, which really means a lot, given the economy these days. I was even happier to see that the utility closet was left open, and there was plenty of wall space and a bucket of broken glass. I left that closet a changed man, and for the better. The bucket inspired me to convert to Buddhism, and I've been able to make a positive impact on my community. I'm now traveling to Tibet, to study with the monks, and I only hope I can find a hotel of the same quality as this one. Thank you very much Hyatt Place, you've transformed me into a better person. Even still, my stay was further improved by the availability of conference rooms, where my "friend" (I say this because he recommended me a horrible restaurant, at which I was stood up, and then he brought his boyfriend) was able to set up a wii. We even discovered a secret room, where we contemplated the possibility of holding secret meetings for secret agents. The stairwells were very clean and gave my echo a nice ring. The staff were very accommodating, as we were only allowed 4 people a room but they let us request an extra bed. During my stay, a cop showed up to the party we were hosting and told us that the party sounded super fun. He was really chill about it too, as we escorted him to the party from the elevator at which we loitered around for 20 minutes. He even let some of our friends ride in his car. I think he recruited them for the police force, because we haven't seen them since. This includes the same "friend" as earlier, and I like to think he and his boyfriend are out there stopping crime in downtown San Antonio. Onto the room, the toilets had a very soft flush, which was very soothing to your foot if you stuck it in, which was a very relaxing remedy to a stressful day. The lamps in the room illuminated it very nicely, but they were confusing to turn off, and I, and aspiring engineer, had to take it apart and taste test it to figure out how to put out the light. They tasted a little funny, but other than that were some pretty good lamps. Unfortunately, I was kicked out of the lobby, due to the voracious nature of how I was eating the complementary breakfast. They told me that it was one in the morning and that I wasn't supposed to be down there, but I knew they were happy for the attention to their cooking. The fitness room had little to do but was adequate, and I found it very calming to run on the treadmills in the dark. During this eye opening time period, I made a new friend who was just walking on the treadmill. Alone. For two hours. At midnight. Later they placed a restraining order so they can always know...
Read moreWe stayed here as part of a 7day vacation to see the Riverwalk on foot, visit tourist attractions, and see different parts of San Antonio. We walked to the Riverwalk area almost daily from this location, which was conveniently located though not "ON" the Riverwalk itself (About 10minute walk).
As far as being an inexpensive hotel option, this Hyatt Place did a very good job as being several steps above the average AirBnB/VRBO in terms of amenities, service, cleanliness, and price. However, there were several small issues with our stay that made me rate it a 4/5:
Main Lobby/Breakfast area: There is such ridiculously small amount of seating that every morning for breakfast you are in a race to get a table, get food from the just average continental breakfast serving room (also smaller than average) and then navigate everyone else doing the exact same thing to go and sit down to eat. Several days I would get food and take it back to our hotel room. This was likely the most annoying thing overall on the trip. Mattress quality: I have slept on a lot of hotel mattresses but never one that has stood out to me so badly as this one. I dont have a very expensive mattress at home ($600 king from Costco, all memory foam) but this mattress felt extremely bad. I'm 29yo, 6" and 170pounds, but every night needed some ibuprofen to help with back pain given how horrible of a mattress it was. It felt like a step above the floor. If we had not been traveling with our toddler, I would have likely slept on the in-room couch, instead. The room itself was great and on-average for rooms at this hotel level. However, the bathroom was absolutely pitiful in size. The toilet and shower were squeezed into a room so small that the door opening would immediately enter the space of anyone who were to be seated on the toilet. It was just so awkward. Parking gates did not work with our room keys, and you would have to buzz the front desk anytime you needed to enter or exit the parking lot. This was mostly just annoying.
Other miscellaneous items that this location did right: FANTASTIC service by employees of all areas. Front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, security: everyone was what I perceived to be extremely friendly and professional. Hotel had what seemed to be the nicest and newest exercise room/small gym that I have seen in a long time, including a rowing machine, a full set of dumbbells/bench, treadmills, an elliptical, and I believe 1-2...
