First, our dog is a medium sized 7 month Australian Shepherd and currently around 32lbs. Size-wise, she looks small for the big dog side of the park, but she learned to play with a German shepherd husky mix so we're always looking for parks that separate the large and small dogs because she really doesn't like being barked at (and let's face it... that's a lot of what small dogs do). This park is sand with some fixed agility course components on the large dog side of the park. The sand can have some holes from dogs digging, so watch where you step and be ready with a brush should your dog be a roller. It has 5 trees and some umbrellas for shade, but I image the sand getting hot on the warmer days. It also has a drinking fountain with dogbowl add-on, so you don't need to worry about bringing water.
We visited on 6/23 from the Bay Area around 12:30pm and it was a ghost town, but...
Read moreThere’s rarely nothing that I dislike about The Civita Dog Park.. The 2 gated dog parks are well-maintained & the people are generally friendly that unleash their dogs inside the permitted area.
My only suggestion is to the one individual who owns a pitbull, I won’t describe that individual because I generally see them in there at least once a week/every other week…. I’m sorry but I don’t think a pitbull regardless of how loving and friendly and kind I’m sure it is to YOU, should not be unleashed with other dog breads especially Chihuahuas & other small canines… I’ve seen accidents like this happen many times right in front of my eyes & in seconds it was over leaving somebody left with a dead pet… Take away the opportunity…
Personally I keep my dog on it’s leash when inside the enclosed dog park. I know it sounds rather silly however it takes one Pitbull owner to ruin it for...
Read moreThis park is one of my favorites in San Diego. Clean, beautiful, a lot to offer. The lower level has a fun water feature in the summer and live music... always something fun going on here.
Higher up there is an incredibly well maintained walking path with flowers and always a nice place to just relax. The kids playgrounds are well done and close to the restrooms.
At the very top is the dog park. No grass, but there is one for larger dogs and one for smaller dogs. I find that the dogs that go here are very friendly and the owners keep track of their dogs and get involved with the other dogs (throwing balls or just keeping them playing).
Only down side is the dog park has only maybe 7 or 8 parking spots and if none are open it's a trek up to the top. Manageable, but a...
