Ka Prao Thai Cuisine — Restaurant in San Diego

DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY* Worst delivery I have ever received from Postmates. I ordered the pineapple fried rice w/ fried egg. 15$. I received hard old rice with a few tiny pieces of shrimp. I talked to gentlemen named Chris who claimed he was the owner. He was extremely hard to communicate with. First he told me that I need to deal with postmates and not him. Then he also claimed he specifically remembered hand making my order himself step by step (aka calling me a liar) but he said he'd call to postmates to see what happens and he'd call me back. He calls back maybe 5 min later and tells me I'm a liar and that he never made any postmates orders today. After making sure I was speaking to the one and only Ka Prao around this area and spending 15min walking him through my order confirmation emails/time etc.. he finally admitted that they had indeed made my order. I then of course politely asked him why he so assured me earlier that he himself hand made the meal I ordered and 5 min later turn around and call me and tell me you never made such an order or even heard of it. Lol. He was not interested in giving me an explanation.

Chris did say he would call postmates again now that he found my order receipt (mind you I had made the order maybe a little over a hour before this point). He called me back maybe 10min later to tell me he was sorry that that he spoke with the cooks and confirmed they made the wrong order. He apologized prefusely and told me that Postmates told him that they would immediately issue me a full refund.

I then received an email from postmates saying they are issuing me a partial refund for my troubles *BUT because they will not receive any reimbursement from Ka Prao that they will not be able to give me a full refund. I immediately called Chris. He basically called me a liar and told me to follow all these steps so he could help me. Chris wins. I dont have hours to try to get a refund. He's a pure scammer. I told him I was going to leave him a bad review and he camly but swiftly repeated "I don't care, I dont care", over n over n over..like he'd been through this song and...

We love Thai food and always are looking to expand our personal restaurant catalog. This place was a definite homeroom and we will be headed back soon.

My wife doesn't life seafood so normally I get to hoard anything with crab or fish. I got a crab puff for myself but I should have gotten two. It was so delicious that my wife ate half the appetizer. (Who knows, maybe you have converted her to an appreciation of crab) The Sweet and Sour Sauce paired very well and the wanton was incredibly flaky.

The Yellow Curry was phenomenal. This tends to be my go-to Thai dish since it has hints of an Indian palette (my culture). The curry itself was one of the best tasting I have ever had. The vegetables should be cut into smaller pieces or cooked longer since they were still a bit tough.

I will say that the Chicken Pad Thai was a slight disappointment. It was still tasty but after having two spectacular dishes, I was expecting more.

The Thai Ice Tea was pretty standard (good) and the Mango Sticky Rice had a nice coconut sauce but the Mango we were given was a bit bland but I know that is the hazard with getting fruit when it is out of peak season.

We also appreciated that precaution taken to minimize my need to touch surfaces during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was able to order online and the only thing I touched during the pick up was the bag with my food.

In summary, lots of good food but some dishes...

One year update! Well I have been coming here on and off over the last year. I am happy to report that Ka Prao Thai Cuisine is great as ever! Small changes here and there but nothing crazy. The most notable change is the interior design. Thank you being the best Thai restaurant.

Best Thai food in the San Diego, Coronado, and Imperial Beach area by far. So good in fact we went here two days in a row try more items off the menu. The staff are very nice and can help if you are not sure what you would like and the restaurant is kept clean. I would suggest anything you order get it a 9/10 on the spiciness. This place is also very popular for take out as well. All the plates can be shared so bring some friends and try out more plates!

Update September 19th 2021:

I am going back through all my reviews of restaurants to be more stringent and to compete my due diligence of each. I have set forth three rules that all restaurant will need to follow to get a three star rating.

The three rules for restaurants is the keep it fresh, keep it clean, and keep it simple!

Getting a four or five star will become harder, but not impossible! Why? Well, people rating poor restaurants as five stars when they are barely a two or three is commonplace in Google Maps and I would like to fix...
