We were visiting our son in San Diego over the July 4th holiday. He recommended us to try out the newly opened Breakfast Company in Mission Valley, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. Having previously enjoyed the offerings at Breakfast Republic in the same area, I was excited to try out this new venture by the same team.
The menu at Breakfast Company offers a wide variety of breakfast options, and overall, the food was quite good. However, there was one dish that didn't quite meet my expectations—the mash potato waffle. The texture was overly mushy, and I personally found it difficult to get used to. Fortunately, the attentive staff was quick to accommodate my preferences, and I was able to switch to a buttermilk waffle instead, which turned out to be a much more satisfying choice.
Aside from this minor hiccup, the service at Breakfast Company was excellent. The staff members were friendly, attentive, and efficient, ensuring that my dining experience was pleasant from start to finish. They were knowledgeable about the menu and provided helpful recommendations when needed.
One aspect that truly stood out during my visit was the ambiance. The atmosphere at Breakfast Company was inviting and cozy, creating a warm and welcoming environment to enjoy a leisurely breakfast. The interior was tastefully decorated, and the seating arrangements allowed for comfortable conversations without feeling crowded.
Now, onto the highlight of my meal—the egg Benedict. It was absolutely fantastic! The poached eggs were cooked to perfection, with luscious, runny yolks that complemented the English muffin and hollandaise sauce beautifully. The combination of flavors was spot-on, and I couldn't have asked for a better rendition of this classic breakfast dish.
In conclusion, while there was a slight disappointment with the mash potato waffle, the overall experience at the Breakfast Company was delightful. The attentive service, cozy ambiance, and outstanding egg Benedict made it a memorable breakfast outing. I would certainly recommend giving this new establishment a try, especially if you're a fan of...

Parking/Environment: Plenty of parking as it shares 2 large parking lots with Living Spaces, TJ Maxx, and other restaurants. There was no wait for our party of 3 on a Saturday morning as we went at 9:30am (there was a little bit of a wait for a party of 2 when I went on another Saturday at around 11am, around 10-15 minutes). Some indoor seats available and plenty of outdoor seating with ample heaters around. Very trendy decorations inside with some neon lights, hanging greenery around the bar area, and cool wall paintings by the bathroom.
Service: Julio was our server and was patient as we were waiting for the 3rd person in our party to come in. He realized our heater wasn’t working about halfway through and took the time to fix it for us. Food came out within maybe 10-15 minutes— much quicker than our last visit when it took around 30 minutes or so.
Food: -Steak and Eggs ($23): skirt steak with eggs, served with their delicious house potatoes and bread. My mom says the steak was very tender and good!
-Japanese Spicy Chicken Sandwich ($14): fried chicken thigh with chili oil, spicy mayo, slaw. I ordered it with an over-medium egg. It wasn’t too spicy for me so I added a little more hot sauce. It was a little messy to eat but still so delicious! It comes with their house potatoes too. I’ve ordered this twice now.
-Brioche Breakfast Sammie ($13): served with eggs, bacon, aioli, and house potatoes. My husband has ordered this twice now and says it’s very flavorful and likes the large portion.
-Breakfast Co. Flight ($21): you can mix and match 3 waffles/pancakes/French toast. We ordered S’mores Waffle, Tiramisu Pancake, and Churro French Toast. S’mores was my favorite with chocolate and marshmallow fluff. Churro French Toast was also yummy and comes with vanilla ice cream. Tiramisu was just okay. They come in full sizes, perfect to share with the table as a sweet treat!
Overall, I’d come back again for the yummy pancakes/waffles and to try out other breakfast options...

The ambiance/atmosphere is nice with a chill vibe. That's probably the best thing this place has going other than food presentation.
Food: Looked great when brought to the table and the eggs & sausage were perfectly cooked. The dishes were presented beautifully and I had high hopes. Unfortunately food was cold and lacking flavor. The breakfast sausage was bland and the Tiramisu pancakes were dry and absent of any actual tiramisu flavor, other than the light dusting of espresso powder. As other reviews have said, they really skimp on the pancake syrup serving only a half full small cup with the pancakes and waffles. My wife ordered the cornmeal waffles after the server told us that they were "really good" but they were nothing great. The best thing we had by far was the Portuguese linguisa sausage that I ordered on the side which was delicious.
Service: Much improvement needed in my opinion. We were seated 1st in section of 5-6 tables. After what seemed like a long time of nobody serving us, the table to my right that got seated after us was served water and the the server introduced herself then walked away. My wife and I were confused but I figured we would have a different server & I was right. When she finally came along and took our drink order, we had been waiting so long that we already knew what we were ordering. After taking our order, someone else brought us our food and she didn't come back to check on us until we were almost finished with the meal. We had to ask for more coffee from a random food runner because she never came to check on us.
In summary it was OK, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return. Maybe something else on the menu would have been more to my liking as they do have plenty of options. ¯(ツ)/¯
Good: Atmosphere, good coffee, food presentation, lots of options. Bad: Mediocre service & bland food.
Recommendations for owner/manager: Have a staff member walking around filling up coffee cups at all times. We should never need to flag someone down to ask for...
