this is great for dogs both big and small! there are 2 separate parks side by side, but fenced, for both types and a grassy "free-range" field/park area. i especially love the big dog park for mine because it gives her a lot of room to run and play. there is also a training spot that is almost completely enclosed from the rest of the big dog park. there are balls and ropes to play with and you can easily throw a frisbee without it going over the fencing. BAGS ARE PROVIDED and the place gets cleaned up on wednesdays but other than that it is open the rest of the week. the big and small dog areas are a sand and grass mixture due to the drought, but the "free-range" part of the park is completely grass (it is outside of the big/little dog fenced areas, and you can easily picnic here) but is still fenced to keep dogs out of the nearby streets. parking is free and has nice spacing sizes (like if you have a truck/suv) but the big dog park parking lot doesnt have as many parking spaces as the small dog park, so you might need to park in that parking lot if it is a really busy day (i go almost every day and thankfully i have only had this problem once). There is also street-side parking but be sure to check the signs because of a street sweeper that comes once a week during 7am - 10am and tou won't be able to park on the street. There are handicap parking spots, and plenty of shade, seating/benches, and tables. The small dog park is still a really good size for little dogs to run about and great for puppies too! if you have a small or shy puppy (maybe new to the park experience) the small dog park is probably best, so that they can get used to other dogs their size first before going to the big dog area. There is also an enclosed area with a gate to the big dog park so you can have one-on-one time with your dog...
Read moreLarge park, includes a separate fenced in dog park area. Covered pavilion with picnic tables. Trash cans are in the pavilion area and the restrooms are located next to it. Childrens play structure is set in a sandy play area on the north side next to the parking lot and restrooms. You can find lots of sea shells in the grassy area and south of the grass area. This can be a bit of a hazard should you land on one pretty hard, especially if you're playing some kind of sport. BTW: Rugby is fantastic sport to watch. There are some great games played here.
It is very close to the ocean/beach so be prepared with a jacket or hoodie, weather can change quickly any time of year. Especially if you plan to be there early in the morning.
Parking is decent EXCEPT when there are both youth Rugby and soccer games going on. There is street parking in the neighborhood south and west of the park.
Gas station on the corner and some other shops are close enough to walk to if you need to grab a bite to eat or drink.
Caution: There are a lot of homeless people in the area, including those who live in their vehicles in the parking lot. The restrooms are not usually very clean, most of the time they're useable if you're desperate. Occasionally there will be someone sleeping in the...
Read moreThe dog park is awesome! Separated into large dogs and small dogs (under 30 lbs, I believe), although there is a little bit of crossover for pet parents with both sized dogs! The owners are typically very nice and love all dogs, not just theirs. And the dogs are all super nice... ranging from puppies to very senior pups. My dog is a older senior dog who never learned to play but even the playful dogs are very respectful of her. Plenty of room for fetching dogs, playing dogs, and just sniffing around dogs. Tons of seating for humans. Watering fountain for both dogs and humans. Poop bags and trash cans are plentiful. There is an above-average amount of not-picked-up poo, compared to other dog parks I've been to, so be sure to check your shoes before getting in your vehicle or walking into your home. The City maintains the dog park areas every Wednesday 6am-12pm, so it's closed during that time. It's in OB so the vibe is fairly mellow. Plenty of shade although the ocean breezes prevents it from getting too hot in the direct sun - definitely wear sunscreen and a hat if you're sun sensitive. Typically parking spots available, even on a summer weekend. There are public restrooms nearby bit I've never been in, so I don't know what...
